My husband always makes the burgers. There are three of us, which means out of a pound of meat, there is always one extra - that one goes into a container in the freezer for another day. Sometimes it gets cooked as a ' lunch for one' and sometimes we wait til it has enough friends for a meal :)

I am in the 'just meat' camp. It has never even occurred to me to make burgers with eggs or other things - if that's the flavour I'm going for, I'll make a meatloaf. :) The best thing I ever did for my burgers was ditch unhealthy and tasteless low-fat eating ideas. I go with 80/20 (which isn't that ...

You mentioned in a couple of posts how much easier it is when the kids are not around. I have noticed that the afternoons are the most difficult time for me. I know part of it is I'm tired from work, but part of it is also that I pick my son up on the way home and he's justifiably hungry - so I fix ...

Oh dear. Feeling so lousy this morning and it's my day off :( This is the third weekend in a row that my stomach has done this to me. Wish I could figure out why and then stop it.

I jokingly refer to myself as a 'recovering perfectionist'. It was only after my perfectionism impaired my life and my health did I finally actively start to work on accepting 'good enough'.

It's a lesson I wish I could have learned so very much sooner.

Oh, Yeah. Not tempted at all. I was trying to be polite about it, but I really thought it was just awful :) I don't think it was such a big indiscretion, obviously it was just a little thing - but it was the falling into a habit without thinking that I thought was key. But I'm a lot less likely to d...

I don't have the book yet. I just discovered this a few days ago, then read through the website a couple of times. I knew the first time I read it this was something I wanted to do. It fits so well with what I know and how we live in general, but has that extra bit of structure and community that ma...

Someone mentioned comparing food and other cultures

Okay, more than one person. I see it comes up quite frequently. I don't know if this has been posted before, but it's interesting, notheless:

OOOoo..a fellow Kombucha drinker! I ate more at lunch today, and feel quite comfortable now at 4 pm. Not hungry - not full. I'm going to check to see if I'm eating enough for my activity level, etc, make sure I eat a decent lunch - and if I really need something, do some more tweaking. Good post abo...

We're a British/American family, so I do a lot of cooking by weight. If given a choice, I much prefer cooking by weight and convert some of my American recipes to use weight.

Makes it tough when one of my American friends asks for a recipe.

I didn't have the problem of being hungry all the time - it was the opposite. I was always too full so I started eating less and less so that I would actually get hungry. Now I'm so used to eating almost nothing. I've been thinking I actually eat too little, and when I plugged it all into fitday - I...

You're more right than you know, Janie. I'm coming from the 'eat when hungry, stop when full' thing - which worked for me beautifully for many years, but not so much lately. Not sure why, but it's time to try something else. Besides, I'm tired of having to eat all the time. So, I am very well 'train...

Milk sounds like just what I need :) I also think you're right about my not eating enough at lunch. At the time, I felt like I had enough food - but it just didn't last the afternoon. Maybe a later lunch would help, too, since I don't seem to have the same problem with hunger in the morning. Thanks ...

early days and hunger

What do you do when you're really hungry and it's hours until the next meal. I don't mean maybe hungry - or stomach growling a bit - I mean truly, feeling a bit ill hunger - in those early days of adjusting to the system?

That's exactly why I decided to do it. We are 'in' to traditional foods, traditional cooking methods and customs. This fits in with our basic philosophy - but with a more defined framework. What is really interesting is that my husband - who is a lifelong 'normal eater' and has never been overweight...

The Daily Dandelion

First day - and not exactly a success. Breakfast - Croissant with butter and tea with whole milk Lunch: Two slices of pepperoni pizza, iced tea (and this is where things fall apart a bit) a mini Nestle crunch bar that someone gave me - which, I might add, tasted so awful, next time I won't have a bi...

I think this is an interesting thread. I just started and one of things I have to work out is my 'emergency' food to keep at work. Most days I come home and cook a proper meal, but once in a while I get stuck there - and I never know when that will be. I don't eat stuff out of packages - and I don't...
