I saw pluots at Whole Foods!! I don't really like apricots, so I didn't get any, but I love plums, so maybe I'll try...

It is sad to see the summer fruit go...but the Pink Lady apples in the fall are WONDERFUL (and the size of my head!).

Fruit and Pretzels

Two Blondie thoughts for the day (ahem, no blonde jokes): 1. Every time I eat a different kind of fruit with my lunch, I change my mind about what might be the perfect invention as far as food. Today: the peach. Truly inspirational. A triumph of nature. A sweet, golden gift. 2. One of my bosses real...

I believe that people, like you, who try to see others' points of view end up being much happier, too. I mean, wouldn't I rather believe that another person who curses me out on the Metro for no apparent reason is an otherwise good and happy person that is having a bad day rather than conceding the ...

PS Sandy, like you and Dru, my weight loss goals are pretty modest (but we KNOW that doesn't make it any easier--isn't everyone always saying that it's those last pesky 10 pounds...), and like Dru (and YOU, I swear!!), I found the cravings to abate quickly. I've lost around 13 pounds in about 2 mont...

Me, thinking: "Yeah, well at least I'm not polluting the air and sending more oil profits to nations that hate us. Oh, yeah, and I'm losing weight, too!" I repeat: you rock. About catcalls, too: Usually I smile innocently and wave and sometimes chirp "hi!"--it usually disarms them long enough for m...

Re: peace vigil?

I violently disagree with your statements about attending a peace vigil. Beer is appropriate everywhere , at all times, except when you are, or will soon, operate a motor vehicle. ...or if the peace vigil is being sponsored by AA. I tend to agree with the general support of beer...I used to work at...

Deb--only problem was the sandwich was lacking kalamata olives... Ok, I do think the habit is in place. Finally. While I didn't have a problem with snacking, sweets, or seconds while I was in the first 21 days, it seemed more because I was following the rules...I think now it doesn't occur to...

Awesome exercise effort, Dru. I think you will get beautiful results with the cardio/yoga combo--definitely keep up with some sort of strength/stretching stuff (and 45 minutes on the ellip is no joke!!). Awesome job!

Kevin - I was talking to some other guys about pushups, and (though I know you didn't exactly say that you think that one way is better than the other), they both thought I should work my way up by fatiguing my muscles in one (or two) sets rather than the way I'm doing it. Whaddya think? This weeken...

VanillaGorilla and I are racing to one set of 100. Given he's younger and ex-millitary, I'm sure he'll get there first. I'm up to a first set of 70, daily count of about 250... He's doing similar numbers with 25 lbs on his back. Yowza. I figure I would make it up to a TOTAL of 100--in sets of 25......

Day 40.11 (Monday) - 40.15 (Friday) Hey all. I've been MIA this week, I guess. I had a two-day training in the middle of the week, I had/have a sinus infection (I know, I can't catch a break. It's always been the case that whenever I get a cold, my sinuses get infected--something about the structure...

This is a very Reinhard/NoS/UR article--talking about making daily routine task into exercise rather than adding extra activities for the sake of exercise itself.

Day 40.8 was Friday. Swam and cycled in the morning and got to bed super early after a nice carby meal. Day 40.9 was Saturday. Got up around 530 am to get in a 10 mile run before teaching swimming lessons. Had a good day, doing errands and cleaning and stuff and proceeded to stay up waaaay too late ...

Dru, actually this league has a rule that amounts to "first and girl..." a woman has to touch the ball every four downs, so usually first down is "wasted" on throwing it to a woman (to get it out of the way I guess). I don't know what I was thinking, though...I can't do it because it conflicts with ...

Our family LOVES SCrabble, though no one can beat my mama very often (also a librarian and lover of words). We also have a long-standing debate as to whether browsing a Scrabble dictionary is against the rules. It is clear that browsing while involved in a game is not allowed, but when there isn't a...
