Late winter/early spring is tough. Seriously. Last year I crashed and burned hard. For several months.
This year, I've gone into February knowing I'm vulnerable. I figure it will last until May or so, till it warms up and I can get outside for long stretches.

So far today has been ok, had half a banana as a snack and a glass of milk, is that cheating?? It's non-compliant or a failure if you want to be hard core about your terminology. Cheating means to not follow the rules in order to gain an unfair advantage over a competitor. You don't gain any advant...

How have you been liking it, Blithe? Are you finding it pretty easy to do? Very easy most days. Some days I'm vegetarian, meaning I have plain yogurt for breakfast or a bit of cheese on my salad. Some days I'm vegan. It's not something I'm very strict about at all but I find if I get too heavy on t...

It's not you. It's her. If you can't tell if you have gained weight chances are you haven't. I've been sloppy with the rules and believe me, I know I've gained. I honestly doubt you "have gained so much weight." P Drinking during business hours is indicative of a more serious problem than being rude...

We are hardwired to eat regardless of what we are eating. ( Mindless Eating , Brian Wasink) We are hardwired to eat more when we eat processed foods. ( Salt, Sugar Fat: How the food giants hooked us. Don't want to scare anyone but it took me two years before my S days calmed down, and that was with about an 85% average of green N days. And I did have time when my weight loss stalled for months at a time because of it. But I took the long view and each year, I lost weight, got into my healthy BM...

Some suggestions. Remember, these are guidelines not rules. 1. Add weight bearing exercise i.e. shovel glove or weightlifting. 2. Start reducing the size of your plates. Check the thrift store for "lunch plates" or 7"=8" plates. Try adding them in, not always, but sometimes. It's a guideline, not a ...

Remember, it's no sweets not no sugar. The maple brown sugar oatmeal is one of those gray areas. I wouldn't call it a "fail" or mess up though I probably wouldn't buy it again once it was gone. Once you cut a lot of the obvious sweets - cookies, candy, soda pop - out of your diet the sweetened stuff...

I suspect the corporations feel like the consumer is leading them about by the nose since corporations have to constantly be extending their product lines, developing new products and ruthlessly weeding out marginal sellers in order to keep their "stomach share." Of course, their motivation is profi...

Similarly, I read The Extraordinary Science of Addictive Junk Food in the New York Times Magazine . It is from the book Salt Sugar Fat: How the Food Giants Hooked Us , also to be published 2/26/13. I read The Extraordinary Science this weekend too. It's an old school expose: corporate executives wh...

I'm not an infertility specialist nor do I play one on the internet. However, I don't think the stress can be helping your cause any. I would find ways of positively dealing with the stress because anything you do to reinforce a pattern of binging/snacking/overeating is that much harder to break lat...

Why do you think you were sensitive to carbs? Did certain symptoms disappear that reappear when you eat carbs? Do you have the characteristics of a insulin resistance? If so, then probably you should consult an endocrinologist. And really, just because you can eat carbs doesn't mean you have to. If ...
