I love fava beans. They're quite difficult to get around here and I was never really certain how to cook them. Sometimes I buy them canned and add olive oil, lemon juice, diced onion. I see e-lyn. Too bad about not getting them fresh. If I'm not mistaken, the season is short. As to canned, it's rea...

most of them are one pot or slow cooker meals... guided by "things my kids will eat" :-) Yea, iron, me, too - guided by what 'this kid' will eat. Sounds even better. Plain, doable, daily fair, no-sweat, yet would qualify for sumptuous. And 'lamb shank' is next on my slow cooker waiting list. Butche...

Braised whole fava beans
Do you guys get fava beans around your favourite food outlet these days? If so, this is very good and original. It cooks the whole bean, pod and all, not discarding anything. Adapted from http://localfoods.about.com/od/sidedishes/r/braisedfavabeans.htm I mainly streamlined it to its essentials, as I...

Lots of talk about sweets and snacks and S-Day treats around the forum. Great. But, to me, real food, had daily, is also a feast. And something tells me I'm not unique. So, what's your favorite real food or dish? Mind you, I'm talking your routine meal, not Christmas fare. So, give us your daily bre...

Re: day 63
Ellyn Satter talks about how you should never say to a child things like "when you're done eating, you need to start your homework or clean your room or whatever". It's as if eating is the only legitimate excuse for not being constantly busy. It's better to say in an hour you need to do *blank* so ...

I lose interest in eating more - like I look at it and think 'I really don't want that last bit'... It's not exactly feeling 'full' - it's like my appetite to eat more just suddenly cuts off. Sorry - can't give you a better definition. It's almost like the food loses it's appeal. Hey, Raw, to me, i...

This No S forum has given me so support through the years. I feel like I should be a more active participant. Problem is, some days, it's tough to think of what to write about! I see - give back to the community. Strike your own balance, Walker. I've been breaking the No Snacks rule. It stops now b...

day 63
day 63 All's well. Sleep: 5 hours. So-so rested. Afternoon nap. Both at lunch and dinner, could very clearly feel the 'belly belt' I get once I've had enough to eat. Yet, went on to polish plate. This is something I'd like to improve. Both fear of not eating enough, and finding it hard to part with ...

Yes, the slippery slope. And, yes, there are no "free" foods - a new twist, if you think about it, to "There's no such thing as a free lunch". I'd gobble down carrots till the cows came home. People asked me where I got my tan... No-snacking put an end to it, and it's, as you say, much more relaxed ...

day 62
day 62 All's well. Sleep: 3.5 hours. Leaving over some more and more often, I think. It feels good. Yes, because I know I eat too much, but also simply on an immediate body sensation level. Has to do with general awareness to the question, and, specifically, with awareness during the meal - chewing,...

I eat til I'm slightly overfull I see, Leafy. I never trusted myself to follow 'intuitive eating', though I have to say I don't know the approach in detail. I'd love to move towards doing things with great ease and without planning or control, but I don't know that I'll ever get there. Perhaps it's...

Re: day 61
Kaali, you talked about rest and about preferring functional movement. Though the temptation to lie about doing nothing forever lurks in the background, my workouts feel like the fulfillment of a need to me, not like a chore. I do them first thing in the morning, and they feel like a launching of th...

Interesting to read about your experience with the chips - that's a big deal! I thought so, Raw. I shudder to think of the numerous occasions when I ended up eating stuff just because it was 'given' to me or was lying around. I don't know what would have happened had I kept all the fries and, then,...

Good idea to check in here about this hunger and the floating uncertainty about the evening. It would help me, I expect, to do so. One more thing, Kaali. I've started doing a gratitude balance sheet of sorts just before meals. Wanted to set a time to do it, so that it's done, and not just left as a ...

I try to stop when I'm comfortable... I don't think I eat past "comfortable" as often as I used to. In fact, starting NoS is actually what made me start to recognize "comfortable" before it passed me by. Sounds great, Merry. If possible, I'd love to understand better what how you recognize 'comfort...
