Braised whole fava beans

Do you guys get fava beans around your favourite food outlet these days? If so, this is very good and original. It cooks the whole bean, pod and all, not discarding anything. Adapted from http://localfoods.about.com/od/sidedishes/r/braisedfavabeans.htm I mainly streamlined it to its essentials, as I...

e-lyn, the story about your childhood experience was very moving. Thanx for sharing. Yes, of course, no blame. Our parents are people - limited, erring, feeling their way, and bungling. I can definitely see this in my own experience as a parent. A million things, but I'll just mention my ill-adjuste...

did anyone have a childhood food-training in 'if you eat all your dinner, you can have your pudding'? ie the sweet things only came IF YOU ATE ALL YOUR DINNER/or IF YOU'RE A GOOD GIRL/BOY? No, Raw, didn't have that particular tactic deployed on me. Sounds like you're telling us where your predilect...

I focused on... thinking about how I felt at the end of that plate. When I started recognizing that feeling, then I was able to start recognizing it during meals when, for some reason, I had a bigger or more full plate. eating what I really wanted and liked first.... --what really looked, tasted, s...

I agree, it's hard to describe how you know exactly when to stop while dining out. I think I hit a point where my stomach starts to get uncomfortable and the taste of the food goes from"wow ,this is delicious" to "this is okay". I see, MaggieMae - tummy discomfort and food losing its appeal. I'm cu...

I feel a sense of sadness and minor anxiety as my meal comes to an end. I'm not sure if it's because I'm still hungry or if it's just a natural feeling that marks the end of an enjoyable experience. Yes, e-Lyn, I can relate. I think of it as the sadness of parting. To me, it was about parting with ...

day 64 All's well. Sleep: 6 hours. Quite rested. Amazing how sleep affects the way I see my body. Obviously, feel more up to life when rested, but then there's also something about the body that I see time and again. It feels lighter. Obviously, it must feel heavier, less wieldy, after sleepless nig...

Re: day 63

Ellyn Satter talks about how you should never say to a child things like "when you're done eating, you need to start your homework or clean your room or whatever". It's as if eating is the only legitimate excuse for not being constantly busy. It's better to say in an hour you need to do *blank* so ...

I lose interest in eating more - like I look at it and think 'I really don't want that last bit'... It's not exactly feeling 'full' - it's like my appetite to eat more just suddenly cuts off. Sorry - can't give you a better definition. It's almost like the food loses it's appeal. Hey, Raw, to me, i...

day 63 All's well. Sleep: 5 hours. So-so rested. Afternoon nap. Both at lunch and dinner, could very clearly feel the 'belly belt' I get once I've had enough to eat. Yet, went on to polish plate. This is something I'd like to improve. Both fear of not eating enough, and finding it hard to part with ...

Yes, the slippery slope. And, yes, there are no "free" foods - a new twist, if you think about it, to "There's no such thing as a free lunch". I'd gobble down carrots till the cows came home. Kaali, you talked about rest and about preferring functional movement.
