I'd say stick with the 10 pounder but go much slower and put your hands much further apart on the handle so you don't have so much leverage. you don't actually need a sledge with a shorter handle - just hold the handle closer to the head of the hammer. That way, you can use more or less leverage, depending on how hard you want it to be.

What you need really is some kind of health robinson style water clock contraption that has a moveable arm. Once the water has run off it, the arm moves up and hits a gong, then you know that your 14 minutes is up... :lol:

That way you wouldn't have to stare at it all the time.
