Well, here is my random, occasional check-in. This has gotten pretty routine, though things come up, mostly round, sweet things such as donuts. Though today it was because of somebody's promotion at work, so that's a good thing. And I'm holding steady somewhere between 176 and 179 lbs (depending on ...

Also, while I realize not everyone here is from America, the American Diabetes Association has some good info on the subject, including myths about diabetes:

Didn't mean any offense to anybody. IT does seem though like low-carb will be a "niche" diet - helpful for those who have diabetes and the like, and if it works for you or anybody else, then great. But it's probably not practical or beneficial for your average, everyday, run-of-the-mill jerk like Na...

Okay, time for the mid-week checkin. Monday: Success! Tuesday: Success! Wednesday: Er.... Well, Wed. wasn't too bad, but that lunch buffet did me in. Didn't have seconds, but I did have a piece of apple pie-like stuff. (Kind of like a mix between apple pie and a breadstick, if you can imagine that.)

Clicky, Yes, this pays off in the long run. :) There are some weeks I don't lose any, or even gain a lb., but over time, I've been losing about 1 lb. a month. I'm sure you'll probably do better than that, since I had already been exercising before No-S and I mess up a lot and do enjoy chocolate for ...

Betsy, I think you're fine. Yeah as Deb and Kevin say, as long as you stick to it, starting your S-day Friday night and ending it Saturday or Sunday afternoon would be fine. Me, I abstain Friday nights becuase I like to have my post-hockey sweets on Sunday. :P And as for giving blood, since you can ...

Well, in addition to all of the wonderful advice already given, here are some things I've done to keep meals on the road or eating out under control. Granted, I don't eat out nearly as often as you, so your mileage may vary (pun intended. :P ) Try to find hotels with refrigerators... they are a gods...

Kevin - I wouldn't worry too much about the scale for day-to-day weighings. I've found it helpful to have a set day and time of the week that I do my official weigh-in. Yes, it so happens to be Friday before dinner, when I'd theoretically weight the least (before any S-days). You might do this, or o...

Somewhat off-topic... even though I have no children, I definitely have the mentality of not wanting anything to go to waste. If it's on my plate, I'm almost certainly going to eat it! That is often a problem for me, sometimes I'll finish of the plate even if I'm not really that hungry. There was an...

Agreed. Fortunatley at least some companies are taking notice... I think McDonalds has (or is planning) to eliminate trans-fats in its foods. Still won't exactly make most of McDuck's fare health food, but it's a start. I think companies use trans-fats becuase it helps keep things solid and gives fo...

Well, the rest of the week was a success*. (And I'm down another lb. since last week.) * Yes, I am counting today, even though the day isn't over. You might say that is overconfidence... and I know overconfidence was the weakness of the Sith and many others, but I'm still counting it. Friday nights ...

Today: not so good... had a piece of ice cream cake as one of the guys at work just finished up a master's degree. I would have had no problem had I waited a little while to congratulate him... the cake would have been long gone. Well, tomorrow is another day, and hockey tonight will help me work of...

Man, I know what you mean! Often for me it's stuff at work... doughnuts, etc. So when I can't ensure that the birthday celebration is on the weekend, I make two exceptions (sparingly) to help keep things under control: A piece homemade birthday cake or snack is OK. (Hey, don't want to offend anyone,...

Wow, I write all my CGI programs in Perl.... of course I'm not a web designer so any CGI I ever do is usually ridiculously simple. Okay, seriously.. I've read/heard the same thing about fidgeting. The only thing is, it's very hard to do conciously. So yeah, getting out of the office and walking arou...

Wow... you want a height, weight, and gender check? This is beginning to sound like one of those personals boards... Just kidding of course. Anyway, I started at about 200, I'm about 5'7 or 5'8, and probably need to be at around 160. I'm a 29-year-old male. I've been No-S-ing for about a year ...

Okay, I'm baaaaaack. Days X04 though X17- I did much better than I expected. I followed the letter-of-the-law perfectly. The problem I had though was that I ate out a whole lot more than I typically do. It's kind of hard not to on a road trip... the options are either eating out or buying groceries ...

Hey - welcome aboard! As Reinhard says on his board, and about everyone else here can attest to, the best thing about this diet is that it's sustainable. Likek you said, all the others might work in the short term but it's nearly impossible to keep it up long term. But by my own experience, I could ...
