Back in action

Post by Kittykat150 » Mon Jul 15, 2013 11:25 am

Hello everyone! I am back after, oh I don't know, a few months I think it has been. I have been slowly regaining my weight lost on WW. Big shock. So, being off for the summer from work (in education), I am treating myself to improved health and fitness. I have just read Michael Pollan's Food Rules and feel that his rules and NoS could be the best way to live. I have so much less stress, and stress eating, in the summer. Great time to solidify better habits. So I am saying hello again. You are all so friendly and helpful. I am glad to be back. All green since Friday....today I am baking homemade wheat bread (Jim Lahey method). Can you imagine on any diet, starting a Monday by baking bread? That's living!
Peace,
Kat

Welcome back! I'm still not a purist about anything except no snacking, sweets, or seconds on N days, but I do still eat a diet of a lot of fresher, less manufactured food than most. It evolves over years! I was struck visiting my older sister how different my outlook has become since even before NO S because she turned down an offer to split a meal salad (often the only way to get some unadulterated plant food in a restaurant) with me (I wasn't saying we might not split something else, too) saying, "I had a salad yesterday." I laughed because I thought she was kidding! It wasn't a comfortable moment. Food less often and better quality more often, step by step.

Wow, oolala, I'm glad you didn't offer to split a salad with me! I would've said, no thanks, I just had one last month! Don't worry, I'll get there eventually!

Funny ladies! I am blessed with a love of all things vegetable, so eating mostly plants is an easy one for me. Eating better quality food, and not too much are bigger challenges.
Specifically, eating too much over the course of a day is the trouble. I am a "grazer". No snacking is the key to my goals. I think it was Dr. Phil who wrote that most people only need to diet a few times a day, during their trouble periods. My trouble period is from after work to dinner time (3 to 5ish). That's when I need to put on my big girl panties.
I loved the quote I read today: "if I can wait to pee I can wait to eat"
I have used that a couple of times today.
Thanks to the source, but I cannot remember where I read it.
Thank you all for the hellos. It feels right to be back.

Haha I like that quote! Well, actually I do love veggies, it's just that I have a hard time with salad. Sometimes I'm in the mood for it but I get burnt out with it quickly. Now sautéed vegs, yum!!!!!

I have the dubious honor of being the source of the pee quote.

I like Dr. Phil's way of phrasing the issue. It is what it boils down to.

I used to call the hours from around 3-5 p.m. "the witching hours." I still get tinges of desire at that time, but they're minor.

LOL!!! Well, somebody's gotta say it. Yep, that's my bad time of day too. Luckily I can get out of work about 3 every day (so far) so I'm busy with trying to get home, etc. and so it's not a period where I just sit there and imagine how hungry I am.

For me, those are the hours after the students leave for the day and the work of preparing for the next day, grading papers, and handling all the problems that had cropped up begins. Earlier on, I would be looking at another 3-4 hours after having spent the day teaching and it was overwhelming and demoralizing. It's still no picnic, but I don't eat during those times anymore.
