Across the internet

I read a bunch of food-related blogs. Found some interesting articles this morning:

This is from the first one:
How To Simplify Eating
I really don’t think it’s all that difficult to figure out what to eat, however. It’s as simple as “Eat Real Foodâ€. So what do I mean by Real Food? Simple…I mean foods that are in, or very near to, their natural state. Here’s a short list of guidelines to lead us to real foods:

Food grows and dies. It isn’t created.

Food rots, wilts, and becomes generally unappetizing, typically rather quickly.

Food doesn’t need an ingredient label (and probably isn’t in a package either).

Food doesn’t have celebrity endorsements.

Food doesn’t make health claims.

I liked most of that, but he is pretty gungho on the evils of grains for someone who is throwing out magical diet restrictions!

Yea, I noticed that but thought the rest of it was pretty interesting.

I made several things from this site:http://smittenkitchen.com/ Over the weekend.

Obviously, you would not want a bunch of those car-bomb cupcakes sitting around your house, but I made the warm butternut squash and chickpea salad for my brownbag lunches, and baked the light wheat bread. OMG, they're both so good! There are a lot of just good, scratch-cooking recipes for tasty meals with lots of fresh vegetables and real food, plus the photography is pretty.

I also love Mark Bittman's blog, but I'm pretty sure you already know abou that one!

You're right -- I'm familiar with Bitten (Mark Bittman's blog). I really like smittenkitchen, too. Also, Simply Recipes: http://elise.com/recipes/

Wow, Simply Recipes looks great! Oxtail stew -- I need to make that before the winter's over.

I think Cheap, Healthy, Good is how I got to Zen Habits.

It's a cold, snowy day here in New England, and I have just spent a delightful hour browsing the CHG blog. It's terrific -- many great-souding recipes and some pretty snappy articles as well. Thanks so much for making mention of this, Eileen. It's definitely going into my bookmarks!

Some of my favorite food blogs (in addition to Simply Recipes: http://elise.com/recipes/)

I really like the way Ree writes, and all of her recipes sound good, but I've had the most failures with hers, though from the many comments I'm the only one who has had numerous failures with her recipes! Lots of step-by-step pictures that are helpful for new cooks.

Mark Bittman's blog. A variety of good recipes and other information about food. Nothing is very complicated.

The next two are written by Alanna Kellog. Kitchen Parade is a newspaper column she does; A Veggie Venture is a blog she started as she tried to cook more vegetables in more ways. She does follow Weight Watchers principles.

Kalyn follows South Beach and her blog is South Beach oriented. But there are a number of very good recipes.

Elise, Ree, and Mark each have a couple of guest-bloggers.
