We had a TORNADO last night

No damage to persons, animals or buildings but lots of beautiful century old trees were literally uprooted and a beautiful old split rail fence is no more.

Naturally, our power was off and we were literally eating all we could before it melted or spoiled. I ate easily a quart of ice cream!

Won't tell you what else I ate

Power just came back on and I'm somehow not hungry for dinner.

But, I do have a question for Reinhard -

Does a tornado qualify as an S day, a no S day or WHAT?????

I think extreme acts of God, like tornadoes, definitely count as S's. :)

I'm glad you're okay.

Take a deep breath, then another.

And if you don't want to eat, don't. It's easier to get rid of as garbage as 50 extra pounds. ;) (But if you need it, definitely an S.)

I agree - definitely an S day! And I wouldn't worry a fig about what I ate! Just count your blessings and go on! So glad you're okay!

Days that start with S = Storm Days

Post by la_loser » Wed Jun 17, 2009 2:06 am

Wow--yeah, S stands for Storm-duh?!

We had rough weather last night too with lots of warnings but our storm wasn't funnel shaped. . . but severe enough to wreak lots of damage. . . we didn't even realize we were hit (never lost power) until this morning when I glanced outside and noticed the tree in the back yard was on the ground. A second glance revealed that the 6 foot wooden fence was also on the ground. Oops. . .

A friend was in a local restaurant with an Australian couple and another from Montreal--they were terrified (think OZ). The restaurant was a fancy one with a glass wine "cellar" in the middle. . . no place to hide. . . then the straight winds kept swooping the glass door to the outside open so the owner had to "lock" them all in the restaurant to keep the door closed till the storm passed. I assume they didn't worry about "glass ceiling" last night!

I'm thankful you and yours made it through your storm. Hope that's the last for the season! or ever!

Definitely an S! That happened to us once, they called it straight line winds and we lost half of our huge trees, with lots of roof damage. Everything outside blew away. We had no electricity for a week. It was too hard to toss all of the food in our deep freezer. We grilled probably 7 pizzas and a ton of meat. We gave most of it away to our neighbors across the road that had power. We all ate way too much which would have been a great time to diet since it was so hard to cook! Live and learn... yea, right, I'd probably do it again.

Anyway, I bet you have a lot of tree branch hauling to do and yard work... that may help. Maybe.
I guess this doesn't work unless you actually do it.
Please pray for me

We have been plagued with sever thunderstorms, winds and hail for about a week now, but I cannot imagine a tornado. I am glad you and your family are OK and I will keep you in prayer.

Thanks to you all. You are all very sweet.

We live in the Missouri Ozarks, by the way.

Well, I didn't gain fifty pounds. I still weigh 140 but feel yucky.

I added two glasses of wine to the mix last night, just for good measure - not that it would go bad.

I was hoping that it was all a dream, but noooo - my beautiful perennial beds filled with blooming flowers are no more. Shattered gazing balls and fountains, etc........

Add to the mix the fact that my husband is recovering from surgery and it will drive him crazy that he can't get out there and do the work.

Does having a crazy husband count as an S day?

S = Spouse ?!

Post by la_loser » Wed Jun 17, 2009 12:20 pm

Well, Spouse does begin with S! However, I'm afraid that should we count that, that many of us might have S days Seven days a week!

My time for a disclaimer: My Spouse is also Sweet and Supportive and lots of other S's so I'm attacking him . . .but I'm just saying. . . yeah, S=Spouse-at least Sometimes

Seriously, though, I'm sure your hubby will be frustrated at being homebound during the cleanup. You can just promise to let him clean up limbs from the next ice storm instead--or snow-shovelling!

"Cyclone" sounds like it starts with S :-)

You have my blessing -- whenever there's a significantly elevated chance that you might be eating your last meal, I'd say call it an S-day.

Yesterday was definitely rough! we were in severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings to (southeast s.d.) It got VERY scary for several minutes with high winds and hail pelting the house sideways. I also thought about breaking out the chocolate LOL but I did resist thankfully. Chocolate isn't going to keep the roof from blowing off.

Glad everyone's ok. My little garden sustained some hail damage :( but it looks liek the plants will be able to come through.
