Reinhard's 2010 "during"
Only a month and a day late:
http://nosdiet.com/beforeafter.html
Notes:
1. I've reorganized the page so it's vertically oriented instead of horizontally. I'm not sure why I didn't think of that earlier. Now I've got much more room for decades of maintenance shots without fancy widgets.
2. This also means it looks OK in mobile devices without having to pinch and scroll. I'm going to redo all my site pages to be single vertical columns towards this end. Saves screen real estate even on big monitors.
3. It's valid HTML5! How's that for cutting edge?

I like the vertical layout. Your daughters are adorable. Almost makes me wish mine were little girls again. Almost. Nah, not really!

Hi ksbrowne, I'm sure Reinhard will chime in soon, but as far as I know, he has been walking to work every day, (Urban Ranger) which I think averages about 2 and a half miles or so as I remember him saying a while ago, and he does 14 minutes of Shovelglove per day, but his sledgehammer is a whopping 20 lbs. He started with a 12 lb sledge and worked up to that over several years.
Pretty impressive isn't he!

A lot of body builder types will tell you that the best exercise for getting ripped - in addition to weight training of course, which is was SG is - is walking. Not running or jogging, but walking.
Go figure.
I think Reinhard mentioned that he does some bodyweight training (pushups, etc.) too.

I have no idea who the "P90x guys" are, but I assume this is a complement?
Here's exactly what I've been doing since 2002:
1) No S
2) Shovelglove (really just 14 minutes an N-day)
3) Urban ranger (<20 minutes to work, <20 minutes from work, plus occasional lunch and other walks average perhaps another 10-15 minutes a day, taking weekends etc. into account I'd estimate than on average over the course of all days in a year it's no more than 40 minutes total a day)
That's all I did through the first couple of "durings."
Since then, I've dabbled with a couple other supplemental exercises, but none of them has been very time intensive or consistent for long periods of time. They've been more benchmarks of fitness than activities to actually get me fit. In the interest of full disclosure I'll list them here:
For the last few years, when it's warm out, I'll do a slow, not very long job about once a week. I'd guess that this works out to about 2-3 jogs a month on average over the course of a year, usually about 3 miles at about 9 minutes a mile. So not very intense and not very frequent. Though I enjoy it and would do it more if I had time, and it's nice to know that I physically can run to some degree should the need arise, I doubt it's significantly affected my fitness or made me look any different.
A couple of years ago I got a pullup bar and I use this sporadically to see how many pullups, chinups and "wide pullups" I can bang out. I'll also sometimes to similar "test sets" of pushups and squats. Again, it's more a metric than an actual strength building exercise.
So the short answer is, yes, for all practical purposes, all I do for exercise is 14 minutes a day of shovelglove (and urban ranger -- don't discount this).

P90X is a fitness system that looks extremely strenuous. The informercials are all over TV. The "Afters" look very fit and muscular. I know people who swear by the system.
However, since I am averse to strenuous exercise and stringent diets, I'm pleased to see someone who got terrific results with more enjoyable exercise and a moderate diet.

The photos are indeed a great inspiration (and how cute! Lovely girl ). Would LOVE to see a family photoshoot!
As much as I adore NoS, I'm pretty skeptical about 14 minutes of anything. Sure, 14 minutes are better than doing nothing, but after seeing your pictures I just absolutely can't believe you built such an impressive physique with nothing but a sledgehammer and walking!

To other posters: Oh my gosh, isn't a measure of how psychologically healthy a person Reinhard is that he doesn't even know who the P90X guy is?
I think what's also valuable about this updated posting is that you have gone well past the 5 years of maintenance that most weight losers don't get to.
I'm on the No S team on Sparkpeople and there one member put up this thread and remarked how young you look, too. Ironic, since you said you will look older as time goes on and that's not due to the diet.
Ditto the compliments, btw.

If you have done the sledgehammer workout for 14 minutes, you will know quickly that this is all you need to get "ripped." I have been doing it since January, and I can tell you that it works.Imogen Morley wrote:The photos are indeed a great inspiration (and how cute! Lovely girl ). Would LOVE to see a family photoshoot!

The kicker, I only have been using an 8 lb sledge!
Imogen, Reinhard admits his results aren't guaranteed. But I doubt he's sneaking in some other workouts and not telling us. Not sure he's doing it for appearance, either, though I'm sure he doesn't mind looking good. I have a feeling he's be doing Shovelglove for functionality.
Some people can be cut and built with very little effort.
Some of us, sigh, can't, but being stronger is definitely nicer.

Looking ripped is more about low bodyfat than it is about bulging muscles. His habits certainly support low bodyfat.Imogen Morley wrote: As much as I adore NoS, I'm pretty skeptical about 14 minutes of anything. Hi Imogen, next time you go to a hardware store, try to find a 16 pound sledgehammer.. i say that because most of them don't even carry 20 lb ones.. try picking it up and doing some swinging around.. he uses a 20 lb sledge.. unless you actually try doing this, you won't really have an idea of how much exercise he's really doing, and he's been doing this for nearly 7 years, five days a week. Reinhard started out only 40 lbs overweight and lost all that in his first year of doing NoS, so his continued working out has continued to define and maintain his physique, and that in turn, has helped him to have such low body fat, as well toned muscles will boost your metabolism, even when resting.Imogen Morley wrote:The photos are indeed a great inspiration (and how cute!
