I'd like to quote a little bit of Star Trek for you.

I find this exceptionally motivating.

Star Trek: The Next Generation - "Elementary, Dear Data"

Pulaski: "To feel the thrill of victory, there has to be the possibility of failure. Where's the victory in winning a battle you can't possibly lose?"

Data: "Are you suggesting there is some value in losing?"

Pulaski: "Yes. That's the great teacher. We humans learn more often from a failure or a mistake than we do from an easy success."

This goes along with my favourite quote from A Good Year, from Uncle Henry (Albert Finney):

"You'll come to see that a man learns nothing from winning. The act of losing, however, can elicit great wisdom. Not least of which is, uh... how much more enjoyable it is to win. It's inevitable to lose now and again. The trick is not to make a habit of it."
