I think I've got it this time

I've done No S before and joined this forum a few years ago originally, but previously never stuck to it long enough for it to become habit (despite my clothes feeling looser every time I tried). Anyway, with a beach holiday booked for 6 weeks time and weighing 3 stone (42lbs if you don't do stones) heavier than when I met my husband 12 years ago I decided that I'd give No S another go (Actually, first I contemplated which crash diet would give me maximum weight loss in 6 weeks before common sense prevailed), figuring even a little bit off would give me a bit more confidence on the beach.

So, I'm on day 6 now and have lost an incredible 8lbs (I realise this will be mostly water but who cares, I'm under 13st for the first time in I don't know how long!). But the amazing thing is the sense of control I feel around food. I'm no longer having the constant battle in my head around trying (and mostly failing) to resist crappo junk food, the beating myself up every time I binge on whatever I can get my hands on. And I am tasting my food - every mouthful. I haven't put extra salt on my food for the past 2 days (unprecedented for me) and the pudding I ate yesterday tasted unnaturally sweet (this wasn't a problem - I enjoyed every mouthful!).

I think something's clicked this time and I'm utterly delighted!

That's great news!

You really do appreciate food more when you only eat 3 times a day. It's nice to sit down to a proper meal that you've been looking forward to because you haven't been munching on snacks all day long.

I agree, my mealtimes had become this bits I crammed in between snacking. Not the healthiest or most fulfilling way to eat!

I'm glad it feels good. It's worth hanging on to these touchstone experiences as things flow in their way.

I love this statement - It is so true! We often spend so much time snacking that the meals are an non-event squeezed between the snacks!!

So nice to reverse that process back to 3 meals that we enjoy and look forward to.

Re: quote above: almost the definition of joyless eating; SOME pleasure. No joy. And we often keep going because we think there will be joy in the next bite. It's that dang "seeking" center in the brain. Researchers keep calling it the reward center, but admit it doesn't deliver reward; it's not the bliss center. It's the spot that "THINKS" it's going to get bliss with X action. Never does. Futile! Took me only 4 decades to figure it out.
