Women writers on compulsive eating have been deploring the equating of eating "correctly", and the related issue of looking right, with morality for decades.

I read and liked Diet Cults, though the author is definitely biased about exercise, IMHO. Don't mean to hijack the thread, but here is a quotation regarding the FIRST Power Principle of the Blue Zones Project, (about living longer in health and happiness): The world's longest-lived people don't pump iron, run marathons or join gyms. Instead, they live in environments that constantly nudge them into moving without thinking about it. They live in places where they can walk to the store, to their friend's house or places of worship. Their houses have stairs. They have gardens in their yards.

I really like that the Diet Cult author reinforces that different groups eat differently and survive. Sure, we want to do better than just survive, but it really doesn't take extremes for most people to have a relatively healthy life. Let's support eating and moving moderately, get that to be the average, and deal with the outliers' needs then!
