I taste a small amount ie half a teaspoon of sauce or a bite of pasta. It is necessary to taste as you cook so I don't stress about it. It works out to be a very small amount of food.

I don't worry about that. I just try to taste the smallest amount that I can. This is a pratical plan.

I do and really don't worry about it. Now, if one needed to taste something several times and tended to take larger spoonfuls, that would be a different thing--but tasting to make sure a sauce is correct isn't worth quibbling about (and benefits the family too!)

We had a thread just before Christmas on this that you might find helpful too:

Oh boy yeah this a huge issue for me! (I was the one that posted the thread above). After that thread I tried really hard to just taste for seasoning but it seems to lead to too much tasting and it really does effect my weight very visibly. Probably because I cook so much.

I finally just had to say no tasting at all. It's easier for me to just put a fence around it. Having gone to culinary school, tasting your food is pounded into to you so it was hard to let go of this at first but it's so freeing too. Now I just make a note of it in my cookbook if the seasoning is off.

So just do what is going to work best for you!

For years now, I've let my husband be my taste tester. But when I'm home alone while cooking, I do taste and don't worry about it. :)

I taste when I need to. I just try not to make it a second meal.
