insulin and snacking : maybe a repeat
I flubbed posting this correctly before. I may have even seen Fung's work mentioned here a long time ago. He's much more drastic than No S, but he is treating diabetes, not just overweight.

I've been following Fung's work for a long time now. I think if you have diabetes, his methods are amazing and brilliant and the focus on reducing insulin over time is right on the money. He recommends a combination of fasting and high fat low carb eating. His success rate at changing the lives of diabetics is remarkable.
However, all that being said, following his fasting recommendations is one of the reasons I am back to No S. My blood sugar is fine, and the fasting and low carb eating resulted in disordered thoughts for me, as well as disordered eating. I really really can't do deprivation without diet head. I think the 5-6 hours between meals without snacking is accomplishing much the same thing in terms of insulin reduction if you have healthy blood sugar levels to begin with.
Fung is awesome, just not for me.

Yeah, that's why I said I wasn't endorsing his methods for run-of-the-mill overeating. I might try them if I was in bad trouble! But just not snacking and limiting sweets/seconds are the boon I believe most of us need. It's a bonus for me that I now think I'm also avoiding unnecessary insulin, too. Maybe i'll never need to try his tactics, though 20% of people who get type 2 diabetes aren't overweight. If I don't need to, I give No S the credit.
