Heya folks!
I got a hilarious email from our Bonnie, who is sadly sitting at home with an arm in a cast right now! Hi Bonnie!
This link is to a very funny site!
There are these 1974 Weight Watchers Recipe Cards with these horrendous photos! Enough to turn you off food completely.. But the best part is the writers very sarcastic and pee-in-your-pants, funny commentary for each of them...
Yeah, diet food looks gross! LOL
Check this out and prepare yourself.... You *will* die laughing!
Love,

Deb

I've seen those before, Deb. Very funny stuff! It's no wonder people hate the idea of "diet food." I think my favorite is the "melon mousse."

Oh yucko...there was one that looked like a plate of worms, and another that resembled a dead brain.
Three glasses of cranberry juice would definitely not be enough.

I especially liked the hypertension-in-a-tall glass... two bullion cubes a stalk of celery... and sherry extract?
An oldie but goody!

I know this was posted years ago, but the pics and commentary are so funny!
I knew there was a reason WW didn't work for me!

If you like wry-ranging-to-snarky commentary on the cultural detritus of the past, I'd highly recommend James Lileks' stuff. His "Gallery of Regrettable Food" is a tour through mid-twentieth century American cookbooks, with hilarious remarks on each hideous new dish:

[WARNING: Do not follow that link if you have a lot of Important Things To Do in the immediate future. Potential time-sink of outrageous proportions!]

Dave I did not read your warning..... Now I am way behind!!!
So funny, and kinda sad....my mom has loads of those kind of cookbooks so not kidding. I remember a kids cookbook with after school snacks involving canned sardines and the like.

I am SO jealous of the marvelous sense of humor in the two links provided and in their enterprising nature to put it all together! You are right; this is laugh-out-loud funny, or at least it was to me.
But seriously, I've gotten NO WORK done depsite that we got a day off called from school because of a 3-county wide power outage last night. I was so happy to think I had time to read student papers and really study the novel I am supposed to be teaching. But I've spent time on this and another eating habits change board, and getting bad news about my finances. And looked briefly at these two links. I know better than to let myself get too lost in them right now. They will have to be thought dessert!

Oolala, I read about the power outage. Is everything back on now?
Sorry that the Yuma power station caused the problem. (I live in Arizona!)
Operator error, evidently. How can they not have redundant systems to prevent such a thing?
Take care!

WW does keep evolving. They're very smart to keep having programs that allow for individual food choices. And the media keeps helping to reinforce the idea that we should all be as thin as film/TV/ model celebrities, and the public keeps reinforcing the media...
People will do a lot to try to lose weight, when the result is so revered. Some will even go so far as to eat three meals a day! But not of cabbage aspic.
