Is a fruit cup a sweet?

Hello,

I am new to this "no s diet", I am actually starting today. After lunch, I had my first question:

I had a gelitan like fruit cup ( the kind from chinese / asian food stores) It contained a lot of chucks of lychees. I am sure there is sugar in it. I am just wondering if that counts as a sweet or a fruit?

Maybe I am overthinking. What does anyone with a little more experience think?

Thanks

Sugar at a meal is tricky. Reinhard says sugar in your tea or on cereal is ok and not to overthink sugar too much. How does sugar effect your hunger levels? Some people it drives crazy hungry, others not so much. Probably doesn't wreck the diet plan. Just not too often. The less sugar Monday through Friday the better. I have the same issue with yogurt. I don't eat fake sugar and I don't like plain yogurt but I love a bit on fruit in the morning. I just try to keep the amount small. Just my version of the story regarding added sugar.

Sounds borderline borderline :-)

A little sugar is fine, but I bet it's probably loaded with sugar....

I wouldn't necessarily count it as a failure, but I'd also probably try to avoid it going forward just so you don't have to agonize every time.

But it's your call. The fruit cup in itself probably doesn't make much of a difference. It's more what it represents. If this little borderline food is what it takes to keep you in line otherwise, then it's net effect is good. If it's the start of a slippery slope, then cut it out. It's a tough call, and I tend to err on the side of clarity.

Best of luck, whatever you decide.
