I've been lurking for a while and have started a couple of times and stopped after brief successes (but without dropping weight). My most recent start has resulted in a slow 7-pound drop. Some 20 years ago, I lost about 50 pounds, acquired primarily through my (former) love of beer (I'm of German stock, like Rheinhard), through sensible eating and exercise. I had a few weight creeps of 20 pounds but managed to rein it in. My latest weight creep was about 15 pounds, which happened about 6 years ago. I developed a severe case of achilles tendinitis, which took 18 months to heal and dramatically limited my ability to do much of anything for quite a bit, leading to bursts of overindulging. This led to a period of idiocy. I had begun to think I was destined to become an immobile and severely overweight old lady like my mother and grandmother. I began devouring any and every new weight loss book, never lasting more than 2 days on any one method, followed up by cookie or cake binges. My weight didn't budge up or down! Yet I became obsessed with diets and diet information, while at the same time thinking I should know better. After all, I'm in my 50s; doesn't wisdom come with age? I've gotten much out of reading the posts, picking up tips that resonated for me although addressed to others. Thanks everybody! Thanks Rheinhard!

bopque,

Thank you for de-lurking and sharing your success. I'm very happy you made it past those initial false starts and that now slow and stead no-s is doing the trick for you.

Reinhard
