Is a smoothie a sweet?

My favorite breakfast is a bagel and cream cheese and a strawberry banana smoothie from my local bagel shop. I used to get the smoothie with whipped cream, but as whipped cream is very clearly a sweet, I stopped doing that. The smoothie, however, I'm not sure about. It's 16 oz and from what I can tell they make it with Yo cream, which is like a liquid vanilla frozen yoghurt base and then they add frozen strawberries and bananas. What do you guys think? Is that breaking the rules? I could get apple or orange juice instead but that would not nearly be as delicious.

Sounds like a meal to me. In fact, I'd even have the whipped cream (provided it's just cream and doesn't have sugar beaten into it).

Sounds like my breakfast, only I make it at home. I wouldn't have the whipped cream, but that's just personal choice. Not all whipped cream is sweetened, but even if it has sugar in it, the amount used to sweeten whipped cream is usually pretty small.

ulmerl,

would you consider your smoothie with or without whip cream dessert? that is the place that I believe Reinhard draws somewhere in the sand,
