Hi,
this popped in my inbox today from the NYC health department.
its a visual about portion sizes and at the end it shows 'the plate method' which a lot of people chat about on the discussion board.
Its a nice visual, so i thought i'd share it!

Thanks for the link, blamey. That was a good reminder of what we should strive for when we prepare our three plates!

Blamey -- you're welcome.

I think the original article had more info, but it's not on the web site anymore. This seems like the condensed version to me. Some of the links no longer exist, either -- like to the AICR's New Plate Program.

Pretty interesting! It's scray to see how big those portions are.

Where I live in Europe the portion sizes are still somewhat normal. That slice of pizza has more calories than a whole pizza over here! It almost seems as if people are trying to fool themselves into thinking they're not eating that much, while if you would take one good look at the bottle of coke you'd see that there's no way that this is just one portion. It looks more like a family sized bottle.

Apple just a quick note to thank you for the link, I printed it, the only thing I will do differently is instead of 1/2 plate of veggies, I will do 1/4 fruit and 1/4 veggies. It's amazing how our portions sizes have changed over the years. God help us all!!

Blamey - I had to blink when I looked at that last picture of the plate with its portions defined on it. I had just finished eating a pork chop, red beans and rice, small dinner salad and split an orange with my DH. Swap out my chop for the chicken and it would have been the same dinner!!
