I've just started the diet and have a question. If I slip and have a soda between meals does that count as a sweet, a snack or both? Anyone with ideas or answers? I really need the help.

If it is a regular soda that would definitely be a sweet, however in the book Reinhard has a list of beverages that are fine and not considered a sweet or a snack for N day purposes ... water, coffee (not the "dessert in a cup types" see Tai Chai Latte thread), tea, milk, whole fruit juice, probably diet soda if you drink that ....
which is why I always reccommend the book, because it is such a good reference and such a good explainer of all these little "points"

What does it matter - snack or sweet - either way it should be avoided until the weekend. That is why I have fallen in love with the No S way of eating. I love simple!!!
Now this is an observation of a brand new No S devotee. I really must get the book read. =)

You can count it either way - but even when things clearly fall into more than one category (like pie as a snack), they only count as one "S-event."
Why beat yourself up more than once? Either way, just mark it and move on.

Don't worry, you won't keep slipping or forgetting. I agree that it's a sweet if it's regular pop. Occasionally I will take my kids out for ice cream on an N day, and I get a diet pop if I do that. Diet pop is either better than it was 10 years ago or my taste buds have changed. It's a nice treat for an N day that doesn't mess me up, though I don't do it often as I know it's not really good for us.
Welcome to the board! Merry

Ah, is it doubly forbidden or merely singly forbidden?
I understand your intellectual curiosity, but singly forbidden is actually quite enough
Still, for those with an overpowering abstract interest in the Law, according the interpretation of most scholars, sugar soda is technically only a sweet. Why? Because drinks, even caloric drinks, are permitted between meals -- they do not count as snacks. The problem with sugar soda is the sweetness. Take that away and it would be fine. And sugar soda is just as prohibited with meals as between.
Thanks for the question and best of luck!
