A new guy

Alright, so here I (we) go. I've been wanting to take off the weight for quite a while, just not really motivated to do it, nor did I know how to go about it. Back before kids, my wife and I did the weight watchers thing. We both lost a significant amount of weight (I lost over 40 lbs) but alas were unsuccessful - hence me posting here. As a matter of fact, I currently weigh more than I did when I originally started WW! I didn't really want to to the WW thing again. We also unsuccessfully tried the south beach thing, but I missed the carbs. And, I had taken a required nutrition class where I learned that a calorie is a calorie is a calorie.

Thankfully my sister-in-law found this book at the book store and shared it with us. As a result, her family and my wife and I (don't know how it would really work for a 5 and 2 yo) are going to give it 3 months. Not only are we doing it so we can be healthier, but my wife and I want to go on a second honeymoon this summer and I don't want to look like a fat slob on the beach (and she wants to wear a bikini again), my sister is getting married in Sept. and we want to look good at that, and we want another child and my wife doesn't want to become pregnant at her current weight (and even I don't know what that is!).

I'm lucky that I have the support of my wife and my family, and even though we went out and bought the book yesterday, I have already read it and am taking its advice by seeking support on the discussion boards. Also, even though we have started on an S day, we are being sensible. I'm trying to avoid the usual amount of snacks and I'm not going crazy on the seconds. At the same time, I am eating foods I love to eat, and I am eating slowly so that I can enjoy them.

I'm also going to start one of the habit calendars, both for the No S diet and my exercise routine. I'm not doing the shovelglove or urbanranger, but another one. So, wish me (us) luck and I'll try to keep you posted! 8)

Welcome!

I usually start welcoming someone by asking if they've read the book and if they've started a HabitCal. Then I proceed to tell them that being here on the boards is really helpful. So...since you covered all those bases I have nothing to say! You've already set yourself up for success!

I've done the WW thing a couple of times too & this plan is so much easier...so much more satisfying...and so much more life-changing. I'm not where I want to be, but I'm learning & I'm convinced I'll eat this way the rest of my life. It's a brilliant plan!

Welcome!

Welcome and good luck!

Much as I love the particulars of shovelglove, formulating your compliance with any exercise program in a habitcal-able way is more important. 14 minutes every N-day of almost anything will get you in reasonable shape if you stick with it over the long haul.
