Have you mothers and partners of mothers been able to lose some or all of your baby weight on this diet?

I lost about 25% of my baby weight & kept it off, but I would really like to lose more.

No-S okay for pregnant women?

Post by bcdg24 » Tue Jan 12, 2010 7:19 pm

Hey,
I first learned about the No-S Diet in college, about 3 or 4 years ago, but had not previously attempted it (although, I admired the simple brilliance of the plan). I am now pregnant with my second child, and I put on about 45 lbs with my first (I still have about 26 lbs of that weight I never attempted to lose; my first child is now 16 months old).
I realize there is a disclaimer on the website, and generally speaking, when it comes to sustaining a healthy pregnancy, all bets are off regarding trying new things.
I also get that this diet is based on common sense. If I apply that same logic, it seems reasonable to me that it is still possible to stick to the diet, but I am a bit worried about hunger between meals, and the fact that when you're very pregnant, your stomach can't hold much anyway (which is nice from a weight-loss perspective, but horrifying from a 'there's this life inside me sucking all my nutrients away between meals' perspective).
What are your thoughts on the reasonableness of starting this diet now, and an alternate plan for hunger-attacks?
Thanks!!

Overall, I have to lose something between 45 and 50 lbs. I remember that I used to be 138 in the months before i conceived, then at the beginning of the pregnancy I was about 143, and at the end I was 188 (ick, i know!), and I weigh about 169 now.
So to get back to 138 I have to lose about 31 lbs. I just hope to lose that weight in the next 2 or 3 years (with the purpose of keeping it off the rest of my life.
I am 24.

I am not a doctor and don't play one on the internet... so your doctor's advice should take precedence. See what s/he says about losing weight during pregnancy. (I have heard that if you're overweight, they like you to hold steady but not actually lose... I wasn't overweight going into pregnancy, so am not sure.)

With that said... I couldn't have stuck to this as written during my pregnancy because I became tremendously nauseated if I didn't have food in my stomach. It's the only time in my life that I believe I genuinely HAD to have small meals during the day!

However, I think that I could have been fine with some modifications: (a) I could have done the "no sweets/seconds" and (b) had a limited array of healthy snacks, eaten at relatively regular times. I kind of did do the "no sweets" because I very focused on the quality of my food - even gave up coffee and soda for the duration. (The soda habit turned out to be gone permanently - it tasted nasty after 9 months without. I nearly spewed my first sip across the room. Coffee is a different story. ;) )

Do consult your doctor. And good luck!

I'd start now and if you need smaller, more frequent meals -- so be it. But have a plan of what they can be and when you eat them -- not just random snacking of whatever, whenever.
"That which we persist in doing becomes easier for us to do. Not that the nature of the thing itself has changed but our power to do it is increased." -- Ralph Waldo Emerson

"You are what you eat -- so don't be Fast, Easy, Cheap or Fake."

thanks for "weighing in" (oh i'm just awful with puns).
There is that loophole on the site regarding the NUMBER of meals per day! I'll probably try a trial run on 3 meals a day, and re-evaluate if upping to 4 or 5 (or 6, god forbid) is necessary as the pregnancy progresses.
And yes, I will consult my doctor!
