Second time around

Hello all...
I tried No-S about 2.5 years ago and did great...until the S days. I know we should expect some "S days gone wild" at first, but I found that a) I'd make myself sick every weekend without fail and b) I had a hard time recovering come Monday. So I dropped No-S and went back to my usual cycle of two dozen diets, each followed for a day or two and each crazier than the last.
Well, all that effort has resulted in about an 8-lb gain since my initial try at No-S. This summer I did various diets that cut out sweets, but "sweets" included fruit and sometimes even carrots as well as other veggies. It now strikes me as very depressing that I went an entire summer without watermelon...and of course, I didn't lose a pound, since I'd make up for the deprivation with a sugary binge a few days later. I was just about to try a diet that--no lie--gradually restricts your food until you're eating pretty much just raw vegetables every day for the rest of your life. About halfway through the book, I realized how insane this had become and how much time I'd wasted reading, measuring, fretting, and obsessing...I want my life back.
So I've turned back to No-S, with some awareness of my pitfalls this time. The no-sugar diets DID convince me that I need to be very careful around certain carbs on S days--that a donut and sugary coffee for breakfast is going to make me euphoric at first and then lead to a crash and further sugar binges the rest of the day. So I will be at least watching, if not outright moderating, my S days to start. Also, my N day danger zones are between lunch and dinner--especially around 4 p.m.--and after the kids are in bed, when I'd routinely have a Weight Watchers fudge bar (or more). I managed to tough out the afternoon with a cup of tea. Tonight I had a splash of cranberry juice in seltzer for my evening treat, and I survived.
I know we're heading into the holiday season, so I'm hoping for some really strong habits by Halloween.
Thanks for reading!
