The Minimalist Makes His Exit
The Minimalist Makes His Exit -- I look forward to his column weekly and I'll miss it, but at least he'll still be around. This article also links to a full list of his "Minimalist" recipes from the Times.

That, I think, is the big problem. Both he and Michael Pollan are doing some interesting work, but it's missing the audience that could most benefit from it. It's as if they're preaching to the choir.Blithe Morning wrote:He's doing important work. Now to get more of the average Wal-mart shopper connected to his ideas....

Sharing Concepts like those in "Why We Get Fat"
Interesting quote, wosnes wrote:That, I think, is the problem.

because.....
Of Course, "preaching to the choir" is pretty much what they're doing.
Only those with open minds are interested in hearing about concepts
that are different from those they've already chosen,
and I find that people run true to type.
People with open minds investigate many different avenues.
Closed minded people do not.
Sometimes people begin with open-minds,
but once they've obtained enough information on a subject to form a personal opinion,
their mind shuts tight,
and they refuse to allow their mind to absorb any more information on the subject.
Therefore, even people who feel they are open-minded,
are frequently not.
This holds true in many, many areas, but seems to be generally consistent.
I've found this to be the case generally....even here...
while trying to share the interesting concepts of Gary Taubes.
