OMG A MOD!!!

Post by NoelFigart » Mon May 02, 2011 4:33 pm

I'm doing a one-month experiment. Just for May (unless the results are so tangibly wonderful I want to continue), I'm declaring alcohol an S.

I notice I've been having a few red days on the Glass Ceiling, and I also notice that it seems to be that I'm having drinks in the evening almost like I would look at snacks. So, I'm testing. I'm committing to one month. If I'm really into the results, I'll probably continue.

If not, back to Glass Ceiling.

Good luck, Noel! I think little mods like these are the good kind. They are small enough and independent enough that its not too hard to separate "this particular mod doesn't work" from "OMG this diet is the worst, I quit!"
Finally a diet that I can make a lifestyle!

Started June 2010
6/27/2010 - 226 lbs
10/17/2010 - 203 lbs - 10% weight loss goal!
1/29/2011 - 182 lbs - 2nd 10% weight loss goal!
5/29/2011 - 165 lbs - 3rd 10% weight loss goal! (one more to go)

You know, I read a blog post related to spiritual disciplines that pertains here. Sometimes, you have to practice a discipline because it addresses a specific struggle you have and not because it's part of living the faith.

The article gave the example of dominating a conversation. One could invoke a the discipline of silence by not being the first to speak or allowing the other person to finish her thoughts before starting in with yours. Not everyone needs to practice this application of a discipline and in fact would make for awkward social interaction if everyone did. But there are times and seasons when it's right for you. Or me.

The full blog post is here: http://www.renovare.us/WHATWEDO/Communi ... fault.aspx

Full disclosure: The content and authors are Christian.

Anyway, I think we all have to keep in mind that one size doesn't fit all all. Part of being a grown up is to be able to take the framework and apply it to our lives keeping the spirit if not the letter.

Good luck, Noel. Keep us posted about the mod. So far, I seem to naturally default to having wine just two nights a week. It just feels wrong otherwise. I wish I had that same sense about sweets.

Sounds like a plan. And as you say, you can always go back to what you were doing before.
