No, it's not a sweet. I think the majority of us think desserts or treats when we think "sweets." Don't over think it!

I wouldn't consider it a sweet - but its probably wise to not treat it as a beverage to be enjoyed between meals either.
Finally a diet that I can make a lifestyle!

iwas just reading the Jamie Oliver conversation and then came here. My first thought was that I remember that not too long ago school's wanted to call ketchup a serving of veggies! I dont think it would be wise to do that, but a little ketchup is a good thing. Waaaaay long ago, I understand folks would go to busy cafeterias and pour a cup of hot water for themselves and add ketchup to make a free lunch of "soup" and and crackers.

Only if you're chugging it straight from the bottle. A bit on food? No problem.Mrandy1 wrote:What do u think?

I try to buy the organic or hfcs-free ketchup at home and really hate to eat the packets or regular stuff when I'm out. I do not think of it as a sweet, but personally, I am going to eat more fries if there is ketchup to dip them into vs no ketchup. That being said... I try to stay away from ketchup or just use a small amount.
Habit is habit and not to be flung out of the window by any man, but coaxed downstairs a step at a time.--- Mark Twain
I just remembered this after reading Blithe Morning's comments about no one getting fat from ketchup... One of my kids' favorite books was a tale of a pig family where the piglets put ketchup on all their food. One day Momma decided to serve nothing but Ketchup... ketchup soup, ketchup sandwiches, ketchup to drink, frozen ketchup..the little piggies liked that for a few days but got tired of it BUT by then they had all turned pink from eating too much ketchup and that is why piglets are pink even today. I know this has nothing to do with anything..just like the story!

I knew a guy who did this, believe it or not. He left a trail of ketchup packets wherever he went.but its probably wise to not treat it as a beverage to be enjoyed between meals either.
Barring aberrant behavior like that, I wouldn't worry about it. Yes, it's got a load of sugar (apparently as much as ice cream), but it's not "desserty" or something one is likely to eat in quantity without vomiting.
