Pregnancy Weight Gain

Is it really necessary for a fat woman to gain while pregnant? I have already gained about 20lbs and I was 40lbs overweight to begin with. Sometimes that scares me when the doc says the baby only weighs 6oz right now. Yikes! But I don't obsess because I know skinny women who gain like 50 or 60 lbs and then go back to the pre pregnancy weight in like 3 months. Pregnancy is so weird!

I gained about 35 lbs w/ all my pregnancies. It's been 17 years but I seem to recall that was in the acceptable range. In my mother's day, you were supposed to gain 20lbs and that was IT.

Pregnancy is a great time to focus on habits and not worry about weight.

I think that's better answered by your doctor than by us...

In the UK, the advice given to women who are significantly overweight is that they don't need to gain weight when pregnant (but shouldn't feel bad about it or stress themselves out by trying to diet either.)

It's not just the baby you're carrying either, it's the placenta and amniotic fluid and stuff so don't think that just because the baby is 6lb, you should only weigh 6lb more than before.

I've been trying to do the no s diet while pregnant. I have not been as good as i have hoped. I do know though that I've gained 23 lbs and I'm 28 weeks. If it was not for no s I probably would have gained a lot more. I used no s after baby Number 3 and got to my pre pregnancy weight in about 4 months.
