I've stalled out at the half way point of my weight loss journey which I understand is pretty normal, but a bit discouraging. I'm still loving NoS though - I'm in it for life!!!
Having said that I've been thinking about what I need to do to help me feel like as far as the weight loss goes, I'm still making progress. I'm increasing my exercise and I just started to use a nifty web tool called LoseIt which helps me (gasp) count calories. Now before you throw me off the island...here is my reasoning.
When I ran across this tool, I thought "Wow, this will make it easy to see if what I'm putting on my 3 plates is still too much for me, calorie wise, to sustain steady weight loss. I decided to give it a whirl. Come to find to find out, I'm doing pretty well, (Thanks NoS) but I found there is definitely room for improvement. Once I put in my current weight, height, age, gender, and how much a week I want to lose, it calculated my daily calorie needs to accomplish my goal. I'm shooting for 1/2 lb a week. It's all very customizable so that's nice. What I like is this is not someone else telling me what to do, rather it's just a goal setting tool and I set the parameters. So I can still do NoS no problem. According to my stats, if I stay within my calorie budget I should be at my goal weight by mid July. Nothing else to do now except keep on NoS, eat the foods I like, moderate my portions a bit and getting my walks in. The site has an app too! So it's super easy to enter what I eat and let it do the math.
I realize this will be too diet-like for many folks, and that's cool, but I thought I'd share just in case it's something helpful to someone else.

Ok, now you can throw me off the island...:)

Hey Ginmarie,
I count calories too, with the "MyFitnessPal" app. I was doing it before I went back on NoS, and I didn't see the harm in continuing. Because my "normal" tendency is to snack all day and not eat real meals, I also wanted to have a sense of how many calories a meal is. I honestly haven't yet tried to make my meals fit into a certain range, though ideally they'd be no more than 550 calories. My first content tweak will just be to try to cut down on the carbs a little; I'm eating way too many.

Anyway, I think others will agree that whatever works for you is OK! The nice thing about No S is that it fits in so well with whatever else you want to do.

It isn't against the law! It's just that there are so many other places to discuss that aspect of things, and it's nice to have one that focuses on a sense of moderation that comes about from simple observation and honesty. However, the shorter people here do say this system can be misleading for them. And if you've been at the habits religiously for 6 months, really noticing your real hunger and feeding yourself so that you do get hungry for your meals and yet you're not losing weight, there is always calorie counting, but I'm here to tell you that you are likely just going to end up eating smaller portions of dense or refined foods. You might add more veggies for bulk or not. But if you find it easy and doable....

The addition to the basic No S Diet,
of tracking food, calorie counting,
or the use of a specific food plan
can be extremely helpful for some people.

The secret to my weight-loss success,
and the past six years of maintenance of my large weight-loss
is the daily tracking of my food in a computer software journal.

During my time here at No S, I've highly recommended it to others,
and several other No S forum members have picked up the habit
and become very successful while using the method.
