New to the No S diet

Hi, I'm Jennifer and I recently discovered the No S diet. I am a lifetime member of weight watchers and maintained a 15 pound weight loss for 2 years. But it's hard and I can't count points the rest of my life. I like sweets and bread and when I'm not being really good, I go overboard. Once my meeting leader said that she tells herself she can have a treat on the weekend and it helps her resist. After that, I looked up that concept as a diet plan and found No S.

I've done no sweets M-F for the past 2 weeks with good success. I can resist knowing that the weekend is coming. I just need to work on no snacks and no seconds (although I rarely eat seconds, it's not never).

I'm looking forward to browsing through the boards.

Best wishes for good success!

I think you will really enjoy the freedom of building habits of moderation. If you don't have the book, it really is worth getting. Our brains/thoughts/diet-head need just as much training as our eating habits, and reading (and re-reading) the book really helps with that.

I actually often eat meals that might fit plans of other diets, but that's just because I've discovered they are delicious and satisfying. If you've eaten delightful meals on WW, don't hesitate to repeat them. And remember that you can have beverages in between to tide you over.

Good luck and don't think a few days of overdoing it mean the end.

Thanks!

I do have the book and I already read it all.

The idea that beverages are not snacks is great. My first choice is water or plain green tea - but I can see in a pinch when I'm really hungry having a glass of milk.

So what is the policy on a smoothie as a drink - or kefir (liquid yogurt) as a drink?

Personally, I think if the food does not exist as a liquid to start, it is not a true beverage. Pulverized food is still food. Kefir is similar to milk in its makeup, no? Fine in a pinch, but not the first beverage of choice.

Hi jspringe! I'm back after a long hiatus, so I feel like a newbie :) I'm also a former WW member. I used it successfully to lose weight after my babies. However, the past two years since the birth of my last child have burned me out on counting anything when it comes to food. I find No S to be very liberating. And I can eat much better sweets now than when I could choose them any day, any time--like cheesecake :)

Smoothies, yogurt and the like are liquid food and not beverages to me.

I have started drinking a cup of unsalted broth with my lunch mainly because it's so dang cold out. This broth is soup and hence food even though it does not have any solids. There is no way I would drink something like that to stay hydrated.

My protein powder drink (in lieu of milk which I don't like) is a beverage since I drink it as much to re-hydrate as to ease hunger on those days when I just can't seem to feel ful, aka tapeworm days.

One of the strengths of No S is that it requires you tp wear your big girl/boy pants. The decision about what goes in your mouth is yours and yours alone. I like to think of it as the Grown Up's Diet. It's stable, effective, and quite honestly not terribly exciting. That's ok.

I consider broth a beverage, like tea. and I've used it when making dinner, though not so much anymore. I will also sometimes have it with a meal.
