I just saw a blip on Yahoo! For the next diet craze and super food. Hang onto your butts...The Aztec Diet. I didn't follow the link, but what could that new super food be? I'm so excited.

You piqued my curiosity. It's chia seeds.

This is an interesting, quick look at chia vs. flax vs. hemp seeds that I recently read:

I wish the "super food" trend would just stop.....

How about this diet:

Nine Meals a Day.

I love the comments on these diet articles, with people chiming in about how you "have to" eat snacks to keep up the metabolism, and the gloaters who list their virtuous yogurt and almond snacks.

Chocolate is allowed on No S, as long as it has no sugar in it. "All your interest suddenly fades." :D

At least it's not human flesh, worms, or insects, all of which the Aztecs did eat:

Yes, I know I've ruined your appetite. That will help you make it to dinnertime without eating anything. You're welcome.

I call just about any food on my plate when I'm hungry at meal time "super" food.

When I saw "Aztec diet", I went and looked up the typical mass of the human heart. Turns out to be well under a pound, so the amount of weight loss due to having your heart ripped out on a sacrificial altar would be minimal.

The chia seed thing makes more sense, I guess.

Regarding the 9-meal diet:
"The regularity of the smaller meals may be just as important as the quantity, say experts.

Recently, scientists in Israel revealed that snacking haphazardly throughout the day can lead to more weight gain compared with eating at regular times.
...The team say timing of food seems more important than the composition of a meal, but are unsure why this should be. "

What kills me is that the author talks as if most people believe in eating three meals a day and stick to that. If only.

It also says the average intake of calories per meal for those who ate 6x a day was 300. This means someone could eat only half a Big Mac, for example, and nothing else at a meal. What fun! And that they were averaging 1800 a day. That's already significantly less than the AVERAGE overweight person, I think.

They also don't say how many of the sample actually WERE obese or had health issues. In such a group, I imagine the incidences would be much lower to start.

In any case, it just sounds like too much trouble after 3 years of not snacking.

Maybe it's because I read it from a No S perspective but that 9 Meals article seemed like it proved why you should not be snacking...

1/2 a hamburger for a meal is no fun.
