Here Mark Bittman is interviewed (scroll down and click on #6) by Evan Kleiman about his new book VB6. What he has to say about dieting or eating well in general is interesting.

Interesting, but too strict (diety) for me.

It's certainly no-s compatible, and some of the psychology (need for simple rules) is shared (and he's even into oatmeal!), but for the most part I'm with leafy greens.

But I could see taking elements of it. Maybe vegan before six unless eating with company. Or VB6 except on S-days. Personally not tremendously appealing, but I could see that making sense for some people.

He says in Food Matters that he's an all-or-nothing guy, and does better with absolute rules than with moderation -- it's easier to not drink than to have one glass, that kind of person. So I can see why this works for him, but I wouldn't want to do it.

I do VB6 as a guideline, not a rule.

How have you been liking it, Blithe? Are you finding it pretty easy to do?

Having an S-opportunity every day (after 6pm) is still too dangerous for me.

What does it say about me that my first response to this thread title was puzzlement about why Mark Bittman should be interested in Visual Basic 6?

Very easy most days. Some days I'm vegetarian, meaning I have plain yogurt for breakfast or a bit of cheese on my salad. Some days I'm vegan. It's not something I'm very strict about at all but I find if I get too heavy on the animal products, I start feeling not good.

Yeah, I always took him for more of a perl 5 guy. :-)

An article by Emma Christensen at the Kitchn about VB6.

That's nice that it's working for her. I find No S more simplistic, less a diet and for me easier to do. Interesting to read. Thanks, wosnes.
