Sleep as a cure for obesity?

Hi all,

I saw this article on BBC today: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-24162508

I'm not sure I agree with it but I thought I would post it here as I found it interesting.

The reason I'm hesitant is that as far as I'm concerned my very skinny friends sleep much worse than me :D but then that's a highly un-scientific observation.

Enjoy

That idea has been floating around the US in the last couple of years. too. As I recall, it's not the more sleep the better.

Valid or not, I like studies that justify my long sleeping habit. Also any studies that beef up the case for drinking wine, coffee and eating fat. Keep them coming, I say!

I have not felt in charge of my sleep for nearly 20 years. For a long time, it didn't matter if I went to bed at the same time every night. I often couldn't fall asleep or would wake up and not be able to go back. Or be nodding off at 7 p.m. That has changed in the last year. I'm just so grateful. I don't question it much.

But if people can affect their sleep, I second their getting enough rest. Probably got to get them to turn off the electronics earlier.

Then if they want to eat less at their three meals, so be it.

haha. Me too, except I wish I could. I have trained myself to sleep very lightly during the past 20 or so years while raising 4 kids. (I have sleepwalkers) I also don't get enough time to sleep. As a result, I've been terribly sleep deprived the entire time. I'd like to blame my weight on that. Yea, that sounds good.

I absolutely believe that sleep is a cure for obesity. This is all anecdotal but - If I don't get enough sleep, I spend all day wanting to eat. If I go to bed on time, I will not stay up wanting to graze all night. If I sleep enough, I will wake up hungry and ready for a good breakfast. It is better to go to sleep than to stay up and eat.
