Just a quick question from someone back again for the second time. After dinner I ha be been looking for more. So far I haven't succumbed but would like to know if an artificially sweetened cup of hot chocolate is ok .

I think this is a personal choice. For me hot chocolate is a sweet that I look forward to on S Days. :) This weekend I had pepermint hot chocolate. So yummy!!

I agree that it's a personal choice. Though I haven't done it for many years, there was a time when I had a cup of hot chocolate every night.

I've used it often, and likely will again this winter. Just note if it seems to lead to wanting more anything. If it did, I'd drop it.

I have a cup of diet cocoa pretty much every night during the winter. It's not as cloyingly sweet as standard cocoa, it's a beverage, and it's low enough in sugar that I've been giving it honorary status as "not a sweet". Of course, if I put a splash of whiskey in it on really cold nights (just to warm me up, of course), it counts toward my glass ceiling.

ETA:Yes, I've actually been a member this long, and yes, this is actually my first post. I get zero points for participation, I know.

Never thought of that before, but it might be a good idea for those afternoons when I'm dangerously close to breaking the rules/binging because cravings start to get out of control. Still a legit drink, in my book. I'm a fan of coconut/pistachio flavour.

I like warm milk. It's very yummy and soothing.

I also often end my dinner with a glass of water as a mental "pushing away from the table." I find that whole "wanting more" after dinner is never hunger, so I don't like to reward the impulse by putting anything in my mouth.

I think chocolate milk is a sweet. Regular milk is not. If I want to be warm, I have a cup of tea. Anything chocolate is a weekend food.

Someone posted an excerpt from a post of Reinhard's on beverages between meals on another thread questioning diet sodas. He doesn't list any hot chocolate, and he does recommend black coffee, but in part of it, he says go easy on the cream and sugar in coffee, so they aren't forbidden. For nearly 4 years, I've just added some cocoa to the coffee (decaf at night) I would have anyway. (That's actually what I meant when I said I've had hot chocolate in winter.) I guess hot cocoa isn't actually canonical, but, as with diet drinks, if that's your worst transgression, consider yourself on the path. Some people let themselves have a 4th small meal and call themselves compliant for as long as needed. If hot chocolate helps you pin down the other habits, it seems like a plus, at least for now.

Bengal Spice Tea with a splash of half and half is a nice treat for me in the winter. I wonder how it would taste if I put a little cocoa in it?

As Reinhard said something like "If you want the health benefits of cocoa, have it unsweetened like the Mayans did."

Oolala, totally agree on that. You have such a talent getting to the crux of things.

Blithe, I love Bengal spice tea, without anything, but adding cocoa sounds interesting :)

I've never posted before but laughed when I found this right on top! I've been having a real hot cocoa a day (1T cocoa, 1T sugar) and its really helped me stop wanting that afternoon snack. However, now that I'm not craving a snack I'm wondering if its time to save the cocoa for weekends...and that brought me here! I'm having a horrible time having 100% NoS days :( It seems so easy to make a little exception...everyday!!

There is a chai that has cocoa hulls in it -- heavenly! -- a little cafe here used to carry it but it changed hands and menus and now I don't know where to find it . . . Night of the Iguana chocolate chai.

Yogi Tea have a chocolate tea without any added sugars. Very recommendable. I drink it with hot milk right after my meal.
