I'm sure you'll be seeing this all over the place, but just in case:

Federal health authorities on Tuesday reported a stunning 43 percent drop in the obesity rate among 2- to 5-year-old children over the past decade, the first broad decline in an epidemic that often leads to lifelong struggles with weight and higher risks for cancer, heart disease and stroke.

The drop emerged from a major federal health survey that experts say is the gold standard for evidence on what Americans weigh.

It will be interesting to see what factions wade in to take credit for this!

I'm certain that the message about sugary drinks is getting out there--what is disturbing about the report is the statistic that women over 60 are still increasing in obesity. At least our little cohort can put a stop to that--

Not that I'm defending the over-60s women but I don't find it disturbing at all. While nowadays 60 year olds are like 40 years olds a few years ago we are talking about OVER 60 year olds, which includes very old people too. At that age, where it becomes more likely that one loses his/her partner or some friends and that one is lonely and also with less mobility. Not something I would worry about.
