Newbie time

Take a sledgehammer and wrap an old sweater around it. This is your "shovelglove." Every week day morning, set a timer for 14 minutes. Use the shovelglove to perform shoveling, butter churning, and wood chopping motions until the timer goes off. Stop. Rest on weekends and holidays. Baffled? Intrigued? Charmed? Discuss here.

Newbie time

Post by psulli » Fri Sep 29, 2006 9:15 pm

Yikes. I am still sweating. My first shovelglove is a success. I mixed the first two suggested workouts, and wowza, I am experiencing the beat-down!

Thanks for sharing an exercise technique that was the most enjoyable 14 minutes of exercise in my life. My girlfriend is laughing at me right now, but hopefully soon she will be enjoying some results!

Using a #10 sledge and a 14 minute playlist on iTunes to keep time.

Thanks again.

Welcome, psuli!

I've though of doing a 14 minute playlist instead of relying on the timer, but somehow I never got around to it. Great idea.

Welcome to Shovelglove, Psulli! Glad to hear that you're having fun with it. :)

my workout space isn't close enough to my computer to use iTunes directly, but I set up a 14 minute play list and burned it to a disk for my timer - so, kind of the same idea.

Keep us posted on your progress!
1 Picture = 1,000 words
0:01s Video = 30 pictures
therefore, 0:01s Video = 30,000 words

day 2

Post by psulli » Tue Oct 03, 2006 1:19 am

It was nice having the weekend to recover. Sore muscles! Oh well, just finished second workout. Stuck with your first workout routine this time, Reinhard.

Thanks for the encouragement, Phayze and MJohnson121

btw, my playlist is

Brendan #1, Fugazi - Repeater + 3
Tony's Theme, Pixies - Surfer Rosa
Superstition, Little Stevie Wonder, Talking Book
Can't Get Around It, The Everyothers, The Everyothers
Scenario, A Tribe Called Quest, The Low End Theory

It clocks in around 16 minutes, which gives me sometime to read what I am supposed to do next on the workout.

Hmmm...would you mind posting your mix as an imix or whatever in itunes so we can check it out? that would be cool.

Hey MJohnson121,

I could but iTunes + iMix doesn't recognize a couple of the songs. It doesn't recognize The Everyothers or A Tribe Called Quest.

:(

Huh. Weird.
