bones popping?

Take a sledgehammer and wrap an old sweater around it. This is your "shovelglove." Every week day morning, set a timer for 14 minutes. Use the shovelglove to perform shoveling, butter churning, and wood chopping motions until the timer goes off. Stop. Rest on weekends and holidays. Baffled? Intrigued? Charmed? Discuss here.

bones popping?

Post by chickfilafan » Tue Nov 13, 2007 2:28 pm

Today is my fifth day shugging and every now and then I hear my bones popping or cracking. I'm assuming this isn't the best thing in the world since I used to crack my knuckles and my mom told me not too. I'm assuming my legs aren't in the right position?

If only there were those dance shoe things like in looney tunes that you could lay down.

If it doesn't hurt, I wouldn't worry about it. There are lots of things inside joints that can make noise. Some people have congenitally noisy joints. I'm sure Deb can tell us what it is.

I pop and crack all the time.

The official word for these body sounds, btw, is "Crepitus" LOL..
That old "don't crack your knuckles" is really an old wives tale.I think it's just the sound of synovial fluid in the joint capsule.
I am pretty sure it doesn't cause harm, or calcium buildup in the joint..
I too make sounds all the time, in my yoga class. ;)
It's just a release of bones when the tight muscles loosen up.
Like Kevin mentioned, I'd only be concerned if your sounds are accompanied by pain.

Thanks for that Debs.

My shoulders pop when I do some SG exercises, I just assumed it was just complaints from badly out-of-shape body. As it doesn't hurt I have paid it no heed.

Good to know it's not the first onset of some vile disease though.

Cheers!
