Newbie humbled by shovelglove.

Take a sledgehammer and wrap an old sweater around it. This is your "shovelglove." Every week day morning, set a timer for 14 minutes. Use the shovelglove to perform shoveling, butter churning, and wood chopping motions until the timer goes off. Stop. Rest on weekends and holidays. Baffled? Intrigued? Charmed? Discuss here.

Newbie humbled by shovelglove.

Hello everybody.

I generally don't post on message boards, just study and learn from them; however, after trying the shovelglove yesterday, I was so impressed that I had to comment, so here it goes:

I am a 35 yr old man, (not originally from America, so please exuse any problems with my english :) ) who is currently serving in US Army. Exercising and staying in shape is part of my job, but even more, I'm kind of a fitness fanatic, so I exercise on my own 6 days per week.

I am pretty good with bodyweight exercises: pullups, squats, pushups of differnt kinds. Also, in a last couple of years I use a 53lb kettlebell as part of my workouts. That being said, I had my doubts as to weather the shovelglove would be a challenge...

Not anymore :D Doubts are gone!!! It was one of the most challenging
workouts I've done. I had to stop after only 10 minutes of doing the exercises with a 12 pounder.. it kicked my butt!

I didn't realize how effective and how much fun shovelglove really is. .

Thank you for all the stuff that I learned reading differnt posts and messages on this forum.
If knowing what to do was enough, we would
all be thin, rich and happy.

Welcome!

Yeah, it is surprisingly hard -- in a surprisingly fun way.

12 pounds doesn't sound like much, but with three feet of leverage, it's plenty.

That being said, I'm flattered that someone with your training and background agrees.

Reinhard

P.S. your English is great. I'd never have noticed anything. I wish my German were that good.

Yeah, when you shovelglove, the first few minutes don't seem so hard .. but then .. wow ! You're definitely sweating by the end of the 14 minutes ... or more. I usually do around 18-20 minutes per session with a 14 pound sledgehammer.

Cheers !

Marc ;-)

It's interesting.. The more I do shovelglove, the more I like it. It's definetely a great workout, in my oponion, not to mention alot of fun :D . I am curious to see what kind of positive results I'll experience a few months or years down the road..
