This is awesome

I heard one of my bosses talking about this site -- casually in joking conversation -- and I checked out the site.

6 hours later I was rummaging down in my landlord's basement looking for a sledge. All I found was a pick ax. ... I headed to the hardware store and by 8pm I had a 12 pounder.

That was fun for 2 weeks. Then I wanted more. I ordered the biggest sledge the hardware store had. Another week and it arrived. I picked it up and the lady carried it out and said "is this what they use on the chain gang? ... Are you actually going to swing this?" I smiled sheepishly and muttered something in the affirmative.

Now I'm on week 4 and have really had fun doing this. I'm a long time gym guy, but don't have time to go every day. I can do this 3-4 days a week and it really keeps my muscles growing.

Awesome Reinhard, awesome!

Thanks!

Jonathan,

I am very psyched that shovelglove has graduated to the point of water cooler conversation. Just out of curiosity, what line of work are you in?

You've probably read all my cautions about upgrading too quickly... but it sounds like you're a pretty seasoned exerciser and know what you're doing.

"Chain gang" sounds like a good scenario :-)

Welcome to the group!

Reinhard

I work for a small company and one of the higher-ups was talking about setting up a cross fit home gym. Soon another higher-up said, "phooey, all you need is a ... sledgehammer." He then proceeded to explain this writer who wanted to simulate some work (he embellished the story a bit.) We visited the site, saw some videos and laughed.

Then I got all excited and investigated this as soon as I got home. Returning from the hardware store with my first 12 pounder was a little awkward. I tried explaining to my roommate what I was doing, and that he shouldn't be concerned. Some things are best left unexplained. I closed my bedroom door and tried to not huff and puff too loudly.

Seriously, this is awesome. I haven't been this pumped about early morning exercise... ever. It's just so do-able, and quick!

I'm a software developer for a small "web 2.0" startup in Chicago. I've also got my own business on the side, which -you guessed it- is all internet based.

I'll post some of my exercise modifications and movement ideas to the other forums sometime. Great ones like "paddle the canoe," "steer the dingy to shore," or "twirly iron baton".

Haha! This puts me in such a funny, great mood!

Thanks
