Preventing calluses

I've been shovelgloving for 6 days now, and I can feel calluses forming on my hands. A quick perusal of the forums reveals that some people like having them, but I think I'd rather not if I can avoid it. Is there any way to prevent calluses from forming, like using gloves or lotion, or (gasp) a change in technique?

Gloves will work. A pair of cheap weightlifting gloves should do the trick.

Someone once suggested batting gloves. Seems like a good idea.

Gloves will work. In the mean time, some adhesive tape over that portion of your hand will cut down on the friction.
