Hello, shuggers.

I'm a current NoSer who is doing monthly resolutions and will begin shugging March 20. I quit smoking Jan 20, and start No S Feb 20.

I was in a music shop Friday night, and I found a wonderful little device. It gives my hands something to do, a way to work out excess nervous energy, and it is getting my grip ready to start shugging. And it looks like this:

They make a light tension for women and youngsters to start out on, and they have two progressively higher tension versions for the seasoned hand.

I love mine!

Yeah those are great for building strength for playing guitar :)
Do you play?
I play and sing.

Just doing the SG will build your grip strength.
I used to just lift and lower the hammer with the handle pointing straight up, hand over hand, like you were raising and lowering a bucket of water..
Not lifting from the shoulders..
This increases hand grip pretty well in the beginning of doing SG, without being too hardcore.

I own a mandolin, but what I do to it can't be called playing with a straight face. Practicing on my mandolin may be a monthly resolution for another month down the line.

Hahah, can't be *that* bad! LOL
I love mando! Big Dave Grisman fan.
Wish I had one.
Yeah, practice!
It's even a good weight loss aid.
You can't snack while trying to play whilst strumming!
Take care,

Well there's another advantage to shugging I hadn't thought of - building strength in my hands to improve my guitar playing (and boy, does it need it). Nice one, Debs!
