I've been crap for exercise lately. Frankly, I have little excuse. I have a job at a gym, live half a mile from it and also live half a mile from my local grocery store... and a library... and... Well you get the idea.
Anyway, I decided to Urban Ranger on over to the grocery store because I needed to pick up some rice. I don't know what prompted me to do it, but I brought my backpack instead of thinking I'd carry it back in bags.... THank GOODNESS. I have this thing about trying to find chicken for less than $1/lb or other meat for less than $2/lb.
So, they had this ten pound pork loin on sale for $1.99/lb, which I brought home and cut into about thirty chops, and I also found whole chickens on sale for .99/lb, so I got another ten pounds worth of chicken.
Oh, and five pounds of rice. Is everyone following along here? I was carrying a 25 lb pack on the way back.
Not a bad workout!

And it sounds like you enjoyed it, too. Most people find such chores onerous, when they can't avoid them. To us urban rangers, they're opportunities to be savored.

It was fun, Reinhard.
I think my goal for December is to avoid (other than for parties) grocery shopping by car and just hoof it to the local store. It's much smaller and has less selection than the larger warehouse stores. Not only that, I won't be able to carry as much home without a car. I'll just pretend I'm foraging like a real Ranger would and go every day.

old lady cart
I'm looking for references for a good, sturdy cart to take to the store with me. The store sells some, and they are flimsy. I can find some online, and I have no idea about their quality.
Anybody know anything?
