Complex decisions are best left to your unconscious mind to work out, according to a new study, and over-thinking a problem could lead to expensive mistakes.

The research suggests the conscious mind should be trusted only with simple decisions, such as selecting a brand of oven glove. Sleeping on a big decision, such as buying a car or house, is more likely to produce a result people remain happy with than consciously weighing up the pros and cons of the problem, the researchers say.

Thinking hard about a complex decision that rests on multiple factors appears to bamboozle the conscious mind so that people only consider a subset of information, which they weight inappropriately, resulting in an unsatisfactory choice. In contrast, the unconscious mind appears able to ponder over all the information and produce a decision that most people remain satisfied with
There are times when science turns conventional wisdom on it's head, and one has to (reluctantly) accept that, but it's rather satisfying when the obvious is confirmed like this. Everyday systems are all big decisions. They may not be risky, but they require high commitment and a clear, firm, quality decision to succeed -- so sleep here too before you commit.

Great post Reinhard!

Gut reaction and intutive answers are always the right ones.. The universe is always talking to us and our bodies... When something is bothering us, with a decision or choice we have to make, it will manifest in our subconscious as dreams and nightmares.. Yet when we are truly satisfied with our choices we can "sleep easy" with peace of mind...

Reinhard... Most people here instantly "click" with Everyday systems...
Never doubt that they are wonderful solutions to many personal growth issues!
We appreciate your creativity and common sense~
For a very nice primer on engaging and cultivating our Intuition
check out Shakti Gawains book "Developing Intuition"(Oops! I almost hit the keys and wrote "Debeloping.." How funny!!!)
Science is great, where would we be without the developments in that area? But never ever discount the God given intuitive powers that you/we were born with... Learning to trust them, in the face of all these external influences our modern life presents, is fairly challenging but those abilities can be roused and honed and are always, 100% reliable as a means of making the "right" decision...

Finding time to quiet down and listen to the inner wisdom is something which ought to be taught in every biology, chemistry, and physics class!

Peace and Love,
