Hello, I'm new here and I just need a bit of encouragement... How hard is it and how fast will it drop if I'm strict with myself?
I'm a Christian mom of 4, who also thought of a similar plan, but couldn't get it going without the group thing... Pray for me!
Welcome, jreneew!
It's slow -- sorry! If you want to succeed with this you're going to have to mentally budget for the fact that it's probably (depending on how much you have to lose) take many weeks or months or even years to get there. A very crude rule of thumb for the rate of sustainable weight loss is half a pound a week -- an amount you're going to make yourself crazy even trying to see on a household scale. Some people do see dramatic results right away, but they're the exceptions. The good news is that No-s is a very pleasant and natural way to eat -- you'll actually enjoy food more and obsess about it less. Focus on building habits rather than seeing results. It can be hard up front, but once you've got those habits in place, they're like automatic results generating machines.

I'm new too!
Hi jereneew and Kim. I'm new too, and Reinhard's advice is so solid. Look at it this way (short term, for example): if you follow the No S Diet plan faithfully for 3 months, and add some form of movement (i.e. exercise) on a daily basis, what results will you see at the end of 3 months? Three months is a short time, it's Spring now and 3 months will take you into July and Summertime and it's so much easier to be active during the Spring and Summer months. Maybe you'll lose 12 pounds, more or less, but guaranteed you'll be in better physical health and probably better mental health as well. Also, you're not in this alone! From what I can see there are so many of us who are working toward the same goal. There is strength in numbers!!! Plus, keep up the prayers. Prayer is a very powerful force. If you, yourself, don't believe in prayer ask a believer to pray for you
! Guess what...it'll work! So...make yourself a deal to try this for 3 months (which is a very fair and reasonable time period).
If you don't do anything about your weight problem all you'll be in 3 months is 3 months older and in worse shape physically and mentally. You know the definition of insanity, don't you? Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. By that definition I guess I've been "insane" weight-wise for a long time. I'm so over it! Good luck and keep in touch!
