first day

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

first day

Post by laura03 » Mon Jan 01, 2007 3:25 pm

Today is my first day in , I've done well up until I went to my mothers house  She is a diabetic and always has lot's and lot's of junk food everywhere! Compared to what i usually eat I still did very well so far. I'm not going to have any more junk today. Tommorrow will be alot better, I will do this ! This is my year :D I realize that this is going to be a little hard at first , I have alot of sugar in a run of a day, there's alot of days I don't eat at all unless it's candy. I can't remember when the last time that I had a real meal! [that's so bad] I 've come to realize that I deserve alot better for myself and that I need to start taking better care of myself and stop taking care of others so much. :o

Yes, you do deserve better. You wouldn't feed a pet this way, or even your car, would you? And you are worth so much more! Welcome to No-S, and I hope you find it as satisfying (another S-word!) as I have. :D

You deserve way better. I am tempted to dump a lot of information on you about what a harmful substance sugar can be but with a diabetic mother on junk food, I don't think I need to. Possibly for you, like me, the battle is more in your head. I know what to do. I just have a terrible time doing it sometimes. There are so many great motivators on this board. Read as many people's journeys as you can. You will find people who are battling the same things you are and they will be an inspiration to you. Also, don't give up if you don't get there right away. Do anything to smooth the transition. Some of us attempt one S at a time until we have made it a habit. Just dont give up. Even if you have to start over and over again, stick with it. You can do it and we would all like to help.
Happy New Year.
