GST's Checkin

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

GST's Checkin

Post by vesta0424 » Mon Apr 07, 2008 2:32 pm

I started yesterday after having gained 5 1/2 pounds over the winter -- this according to my doctor as I haven't owned a scale in over 20 years! I will check in daily (except S days) until I am in the swing of things -- 21 days?

Day Three begins

Post by vesta0424 » Tue Apr 08, 2008 11:37 am

PM: meeting today where lunch is served. Nothing for me (I'm a veg), so I went back to my office where I am now and am eating what I brought. Very unsocial of me, but necessary.

Still strong.

I'm making sure that I eat plenty at my meals. I'm not counting calories, but I am eating healthy, home made food. Yesterday I walked 2.5 miles then mowed my lawn and did a bit of weeding. Tonight I intend to use my total gym.

I am shooting for 21 days with no mistakes. I am a bit out of sorts today, but I am hoping this is due to the changes I am making. Also quite smoking as of 19 days ago, so this is total transformation time for me.

I will abide!

Day 5 begins

Seriously considered augmenting my one plate at breakfast with seconds, but I resisted! May the day go as well as the others.

Will walk 2.5 miles at lunch today.

Food is so much better when hungry.

Day 9

Post by vesta0424 » Mon Apr 14, 2008 4:36 pm

I was shooting for 21 days but did not make it.

Still, overall, did pretty darned good and I was a maniac in terms of physical exercise. Some major gardening, etc.

I really enjoyed the 2 cookies at the Mall.

I am now back to the N day routine. So. This is very good.

An Excellent Success

Post by vesta0424 » Tue Apr 15, 2008 3:34 pm

Yesterday was a winner on all counts: Walked 2.5 miles, Total Gymned for 30 minutes with 10 minutes of stretching. 3 meals, no snacks, no sweets.

Yes!
