Doudou's Check In

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Doudou's Check In

Post by Doudou » Tue Apr 07, 2009 1:33 pm

Started yesterday April 6th.

Day 1: GREEN

with the excitement of a new beginning, day 1 was easy...I know it's not always going to be this easy, but I have a great positive feeling about this diet which doesn't feel like a diet so maybe I should call it something else...mmhh will think about that.

Day 3 GREEN

Day 4 GREEN

Day 5 S-DAY walked the dogs 45 minutes

Day 6 S-DAY

Day 7 RED even if it was my grandma's birthday, i hadn't planned it as an S day, so i'm considering an N day gone red.

Day 8 GREEN. Walked the dog 20 minutes

Day 9 GREEN put my pasta in a smaller plate for dinner, but stacked it high, I was starving, hadn't eaten for 8 hours.

Day 10 GREEN had a smaller bowl of cereal without any increase in hunger during the day. I'm getting bolder!
Walked the dog 15 minutes. Shovelgloge 10 minutes (baby woke up while in mid shoveling! :))

Day 11 (Thursday) GREEN

Day 12 : S day, rather good. regular toast and coffee breakfast, then 1 plate lunch (some rice and veggies, 1 small bread bun with pate and cheese)
snack 100 calorie pack pringles and 1 digestive chocolate biscuit.
At night were invited to party, so had 2 whiskeys with coke, and a very small plate of noodle salad, with small bread and smoked salmon. no desser!

Day 13: quite a BAD S day, but that's ok, that's what S days are for, and it's only my second week on no S, i'm sure the S days will regulate themselves with time. Started normal: regular breakfast, regular lunch (1 biggish plate). annnnd went downhill from there! finished almost an entire pack of chocolate cookies, almost because hubbie ate the remaining 3! (or else i think i would've finished them). then cooked tortellini with cream and cheese for dinner, had TWO plates, followed by a cup of haagen daazs ice cream! felt sick, and ready to start an N day!

Today is N day, as usual Sundays are the hardest, they come right after 2 S days so it tales some adjusting to do. but looking forward to not having this bloated feeling I had yesterday.

Day 14 Sunday

GREEN with some funny stuff.
was a long difficult day. was hungry most of the day and kept thinking of food. i noticed that's i feel after 2 S days. it's harder to get back into it.

breakfast at 7:30, lunch at 11:30 so was starving at night, and couldn't have dinner before 9:30. famished! had a bowl of penne bolognaise and two very small toasts, plus nicked 2 bites of sausage and potatoes from DH's plate. (small bites)

Day 15 Monday GREEN
Started with bigger breakfast (more cereal in the bowl) but ended with smaller dinner plate (chicken and rice) was still hungry but felt fine leaving the table, lighter. i'm having difficult days overall though, it's unrelated to the diet, but being on the diet doesn't help, and being in this mood also doesn't help the diet. but i'm glad i'm not giving up. drove to work today with really negative thoughts about work etc...and i thought to myself this is one of those days where I would usually eat anything and everything! and i thought about how that would make me feel and i knew it would only make me feel worse. so i really didn't want to eat anything. which is great! hope it lasts!

Day 16 Tuesday GREEN

Day 17 Wednedsay GREEN
Started exercising. walked 18 minutes (15 minutes, plus 1 minute run, plus 2 minutes wind down) it's not much, but I decided if i want to make this doable, I wills start very small and try to maintain consistency, and then we'll see!

Day 18 Thursday GREEN. Am sick, tummy cramps, so didn't exericse.

Day 19 Friday S day. gone wild as usual...

Day 20 Saturday S day, again gone wild. But did my 19 minutes exercise.

Day 21 RED! started well, stayed good all day, then cooked dinner for us and a friend, still stayed good and had 1 plate and then.....had a cup of haagen dasz belgian chocolate. I can't beliebe I went red on the 21st day, it's almost as if I'm sabotaging myself on purpose! what's wrong with me?

Day 22 BIG FAT RED because I'm a BIT FAT COW! and it's not even lunchtime yet. I hate myself. I'm in destructive negative mode at the moment. how counterproductive is that!

Doudou, chill!!

"Don't wreck the car just because you bumped into a lampost!"

So you started out poorly, now have a noS lunch and noS dinner, no snacks, no sweets.

I should talk, I'm the same way: my standard thinking is, well, I blew it, may as well take advantage and enjoy the rest of the day. Sometimes I even blew it on purpose so I could blow off the whole rest of the day, or if I knew I had some event coming up where I would want to have freedom to pig out.

But the above quote from this bulletin board has really helped me. Hope it does you too.
