madgoth's daily check-in

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

madgoth's daily check-in

Post by madgoth5 » Mon May 11, 2009 5:59 pm

Hi,

I am getting started with No S after getting stuck at -25 on WW. I have the bad habit of eating when bored, mindless snacking, and too many sweets.

I guess my first day was officially last Friday, so I can say I had

Friday: SUCCESS
Saturday:SUCCESS
Sunday:SUCCESS

So far today has been fine, but it is just past lunch.

Monday: SUCCESS!

I feel successful anyway. I wonder if having a cracker or handful of grapes or celery qualifies as a snack.

I actually feel hungry in between meals and think it might work if I eat something specific, like a small apple or a plain cracker just to stop the rumbling.

It was nice having a regular non-WW dinner. We had Great Northern beans with ham, fried potatoes and tomatoes, turnip greens and biscuits. Sort of starchy, but it was good and filling.

So far I am not missing sweets as much as I thought, but I am still having fruit, just trying not to have refined sugar etc.,

I believe the official answer is "yes, that's a snack." If it's any help, I found that when I stuck strictly to the rules, after a few days my body had learned to be hungry at mealtimes and not in-between. Just like you learn to be sleepy at whatever your usual bedtime is, you know?

Yes, I do know what you mean. This morning I didn't have the rumbling as much, at least it was a lot closer to lunchtime than usual. So I guess I need to be patient.

Well, I didn't eat sweets or seconds, but I had an all protein dinner and later ate a few nuts before the evening was over.

FAILURE sure sounds negative. Maybe I can say I did Pretty Well.

Today I will try again to eliminate that need to snick-snack between meals. I am prepared for it, with a bit of celery and a small apple, but I am going to try to get by without the extra.

Well, I was baking for a party and I indulged.

FAILURE

So I decided today will be one of my S days and Sunday I will consider to be a non-S day.
