Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

skaldmaer checking in

Post by skaldmaer » Tue Nov 17, 2009 11:17 pm

I first came across No-S back last year sometime, followed it for a few months, and then drifted away. Some of the habit held - I still don't snack, and I haven't gone back to putting sugar in my tea, but I've definitely fallen off in terms of sweets.

I've lost some weight over this past year - my favourite size 16 jeans fit now, and they didn't in January - but I want to get back to doing strict No-S; I could use the defined structure of N- and S-days.

I've also - inspired by phayze's Samurai Aerobics videos - picked up my sledgehammer again and started doing shovelglove.

So this is going to track two things, No-S and exercise. I don't have a scale (I sometimes feel like the only woman in North America who doesn't), so I'm using measurements. As of yesterday morning, that was 41-38-47. I'm going to follow this for 100 days, then measure again and see where I am; I think measuring much more often than that won't show much.

So far:
Day 1: No-S and exercise
Day 2: No-S and exercise
