Elisaelli's check-in

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Elisaelli's check-in

Post by elisaelli » Sat Feb 13, 2010 2:51 am

So mostly I'm doing a daily check in because while habitcal helps show me how well I'm doing at keeping to a basic schedule, I want to see if what i'm eating will start to get better and more moderate, and try to make this happen if it doesn't unconsciously.

No-S: EXEMPT (Special day: Mardi gras celebrations!)
Exercise: SUCCESS
One-am: FAILURE

B: 2 bran muffins
L: salad, apple, 2 hot dogs on whole wheat bread
D: 2 pieces bread, garlic mashed potatoes, beef medallions, portabello cap, tomatoes, 1/2 bbq chicken breast
S: strawberry fruit snack, 12 caramel kisses

Starting Lent tomorrow: adding no seconds/snacks to weekends, also no fast food whatsoever

Thinking about doing no-s even on weekends, and just having (at most) 6 special days a month--its honestly easier to think about what i'm going to eat on weekends, as well as actually fix real food instead of things like hot dogs.

This has not been a good week...

02/17/10

No-S: FAILURE
Exercise: SUCCESS
One-am: FAILURE

B: raisin bran with milk
L: spaghetti, salad, 2 cheesesticks
D: apple, 3 sticks of celery, 2 pizza slices
S: 1 pizza slice

Shouldnt have gotten back up to get the last pizza slice, but ate lunch around 11, and dinner didnt come til 10, so my body hadn't caught up with how much I had already put in my stomach as of yet. Still exercised for another 30 minutes afterwards, just don't like seeing all those reds.

No-S: SUCCESS
Exercise: SUCCESS
Oneam: FAILURE

B: bowl of raisin bran with milk
L: 1 1/2 cups beanie weenies, 3 celery stalks, black cherry yogurt
D: Beef/Barley soup, 3 pieces of bread, salad w/ 1 T cheddar cheese

First success in a week or so due to snacking, yet weighing in today have lost 5 pounds since friday which is NOT good. Seems like I'm eating plenty of food, maybe even sometimes feeling a little bit stuffed, and also drinking ~3 L of water a day, so don't think its just water weight gone...I don't know. Still intending on trying to do the 6 special days a month since the weekends are easier to manage, but might worry if weight loss continues at this pace.

No-S: EXEMPT (last of the month!)
Exercise: SUCCESS
One-am: EXEMPT

For me, it felt a little wild, but looking back I guess I didn't actually eat *that* much more than I should have, just *entirely* too many sweets.

B: chocolate, banana, and peanut butter oatmeal
S: 16 hersheys kisses (8 dark, 8 caramel), 35 pieces of cheez-its, 12 cadbury's eclairs, vanilla yogurt.
D: 6 chicken tenders, fries, parmesan garlic sauce.
S: spiked hot cocoa w/ peppermint schnapps * ???.

02/21
No-S: SUCCESS
Exercise: SUCCESS
One-am: FAILURE

B: banana and peanut butter oatmeal
L: 2 hot dogs on wheat bread, apple, 1 C celery, peach yogurt.
D: 2 pieces digorno pepperoni, 2 crusts, 2 C salad, 8 oz fresca.

It's a lot easier getting back into the week (which is completely crazy, havent gotten sleep yet) having done a No-s day on sunday. Maybe eventually I'll just move the second one to the middle of the week or something, but for now I think this system (6 S days, mostly on saturdays), works the best for me.

Learned that I'm going to St. Maarten in 3 weeks, so going to save up some of the S-days for then, and just use two on other weekends.

Why are all my dates in december? Wow brain fart...

02/24/10
NoS: FAILURE
Exercise: SUCCESS
One-am: FAILURE

B: peanut butter and banana oatmeal, 1 mini-bagel w/ lite cream cheese
L: 1 1/2 cups spaghetti, salad, 2 pieces of garlic bread
D: (spread out over ~2 hours while working...thus snacking behavior basically) 1 fruit twist, 1 piece of lasagna, 1 rice+veggie bowl, 1 cup celery w/ 1 T soy butter, 1 caramel cadsbury mini, 1 orange vitamin water

Was too excited today: measured for the first time in two weeks, and lost 2 inches off the waist, 2 inches off the hips, and 1 inch off the thighs! Plus working 4-11 and trying to eat in between helping customers just didn't do it for me, i had a plan of what i was going to eat (minus the mini), just too many things got in the way so it really felt like snacking. Have to try harder to get in the 3 sit-down meals a day with one solid plate of food.

Yesterday was very, very bad. Ate breakfast, threw up, ate lunch, threw up, ate dinner VERY late and ate entirely too much, then snacked on sweets.

L: salad, apple, 1 cup spaghetti
D: 1 piece of pizza, 3/4 cup strawberry yogurt, 1/4 cup granola, 5 stalks of celery, and 4 T peanut butter

Shouldn't have had quite so much peanut butter (I was dumb and put the nearly empty jar on my plate instead of dishing some out--the jar is now empty), but I think that was mostly my body complaining that I'm not giving it enough protein when I make it do jump lunges for 30 minutes :) .

Starting getting even more sick, and the day just went completely to ****.

No-S: Failure
Exercise: Failure
One-am: Failure

B: 1/2 apple oatmeal, 1 muffin
L: Cabbage chili, celery, banana
D: triple layer nachos, chicken burrito, celery, 2 mini bagels w/ cream cheese

And then the binge: 4 more mini-bagels, each with increasing cream cheese, then went for the cream cheese container with a spoon, then had a cadbury caramel chocolate, then two handfuls of cheezits, then a handful of fries.

Yeah...it was bad. It was a combo of getting even more sick, with the throwing up and sore throat and now I cant even talk (which is kinda hard to be a cashier without having...) and food tastes like cardboard so i eat more of it, and starting of the period. BLEH

Hope I can keep march green even with such a horrible day before.

3/2/10

Another day sick...still managed to get in 30 minutes of exercise (have been doing 60, but my knees have been complaining about too many squatting/lunging exercises, so I'm toning it down), but spent most of the day in bed sniffling.

I had decided *what* I was having for dinner pretty early, and put it all on a plate, however it got spread out over about an hour due to customers and such, however I think since I didnt add anything to the plate, it still counts as a success.

D: two cups of coffee, chicken dumpling soup, banana, celery, crunchy peanut butter--too much of this...gotta work on the peanut butter habit or just not buy it anymore
